you cannot use those 2 bolded statements together unless you have a negation somewhere in there...

common problem with vista. http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/error-1721-there-is-a-problem-with-this-windows-installer-package-when-install-or-uninstall-on-vista/

Since I don't use vista, I cannot offer you any insight on if this things will work. From reading over it looks like it should, first thing you should try is Disable User Access Control since that complains about everything from my 1 week on vista sometime last year.

don't know what to tell you, how old is your version? could be some random bug. Try getting the latest software http://www.srm.de/usa/software.html . But if says windows doesn't recognize this device when you plug in your head unit then maybe something is screwed up with the unit or at least the usb connection.

Sorry, I'd be more help if I could see whats going on. I've never been good at giving comp advise without being present.

Adam and I have pretty much tried everything. He is logged on as Administrator and we installed the latest srm software from that link as well as installing the usb drivers manually. Still no go. He doesn't have problems with other USB devices. I think it's calling SRM time.

The only other thing I can suggest is to see what COM port your PC has allocated to the SRM. The SRM software takes COM ports 1-10, you may have to re-allocate the USB COM ports to get the SRM to work. I had to do this and it solved my COM issues. SRM have a USB troubleshooting guide on the website.

If you can, uninstall all software related to the SRM.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and remove anything left behind (or any other programs that may not have uninstalled correctly).

Download and install Windows Installer 4.5.

Then reinstall the SRM.

or stick with windows XP and not have any issues with software not working  Microsoft changed what isn't broken...and broke it...but alas I'll need to get Vista eventually...damn 4GB RAM limit on 32bit....
