Apparantly, Bjarne Riis has a new sponsor ready that will take over from CSC, and it will be announced today at a press-conference.

The new sponsor is rumoured to be danish, and is called Saxo Bank.

Exciting to see what the details are!

Quite correct, the release is here...

Riis Cycling (RC) and Saxo Bank, the leading online investment bank, have signed an agreement that will let Saxo Bank become a co-sponsor of Team CSC together with CSC. The agreement becomes effective immediately, which means that team CSC will appear as Team CSC/Saxo Bank at the upcoming Tour De France.
The agreement runs to the end of this year, and on January 1st 2009 Saxo Bank becomes the sole main sponsor of the team that, from then on, will be known as team Saxo Bank. The duration term of the contract is three years.

Good news, especially since the length of the contract is three years.

Looking at Saxo Bank's website their colours seem to be based around blue rather than the red of CSC. It will be interesting to see the new team kit.

Figures. The only industry in the world right now that cant make its image any worse by sponsoring cycling is the financial services.

Did I read somewhere bear Stearns will be taking over Team High Road next year? Apparently the uniform will be a print of a $2 bill

Well, why not sponsor a team. If it's supposed to be that much cleaner then they haven't got a bad sport to invest in have they?

The rotten apples are being thrown out and the sport admits to a problem unlike many sports.

Totally disagree. The only person he's cheating is himself, not others. He has nothing financially to gain because he's not cheating other riders.

And don't get into the argument it's illegal. It's legal to drink yourself to death and legal to smoke until you die from cancer. But you can be thrown in jail for taking coke or smoking dope. It was legal to murder Jews in the war in Germany, but doesn't make it morally right does it?
In the UK we had the spectre of George Best, the greatest footballer ever from the UK. An alcoholic who had a liver transplant and then *f##k* that up by carrying on drinking while other poor bastards die everyday. This is the same person who said he hated drug takers.
Some moral high ground he had eh!!!

Banks and lenders are big supporters of cycling. Crédit Agricole, Caisse d'Epargne, Rabobank, Cofidis, Volksbank, Tinkoff, Ag2r, Landbouwkrediet and more...
