Cycling in Spain

Yeah my girlfriend and I saw all the pictures on your website, and let me tell you that we did not hesitate and rented an appartment! It is near Puerto de Santiago. Not exactly where you are, but if we plan on doing long ride, we surely can cover almost all of the nice spots on the island.

Here it is looking the other way:
Mt Teide can be seen in the background from this place, but I could never get the exposure right when it was in the background...
There's only one thing that sucks in Tenerife, and that's the cars.
There are quiet places however...

There are very few in Anaga. There aren't many in the Teno side, and Teide national park. As you get closer to the coast, there are more cars. Near the resorts, there are lots of cars.

I should say that the road between Boca del Tauce & Chio is shit & needs resurfacing... Have a look at my forum for a thread about which roads to avoid. You might also consider renting a MTB...
Tenerife is a very unique place and armed with this information, I think you'll enjoy it!

Cars & Traffic:
Some people seem to forget this, but yes, you can expect cars on the roads of Tenerife! Since trains are not possible, and walking anywhere gets tiring, it's become a car culture. The density of traffic depends on the location - the further you get away from the coastal resorts, the less there is. Riding is not permitted on the following freeways: TF1, TF2 and TF5.
However, this place is VERY cyclist friendly; drivers have an excellent attitude towards cyclists. They know how difficult it is, and the respect drivers have for cyclists here is awesome. For all they know, you could be a Spanish champion! The fact is, they don’t know, so they leave you well alone. Although there is less traffic on the mountainous routes, most cars will move completely over to the other side of the road when overtaking - the overwhelming majority will give you a full metre! If the road isn’t wide enough, or there are oncoming cars, they simply wait patiently until there is space.

seconded. plus in feb. you might well get some pros out there.
Mt Teide (Spain's highest mountain) is just one of the most awesome climbs and descents anywhere in the world. sea level - 2300m. and there are several ways up and down and miles of cycling at a 2200m plateau.
try TTing the climb from los gigantes.
Are those photos of Masca? I've done that puppy too! Horrible descent ... tightest steepest hairpins anywhere ... but what a climb!!! Makes Alpe D'Huez look flat. When I get to the top people (non-cyclists ... you know... normal people) were looking at me and almost falling over with disbelief that this thing could be cycled up ... the satisfaction of hearing "it's just unbelievable isnt it?"
