but veteran racer Gilberto Simoni, usually known for his outspoken ways, preferred not to comment. "I don't say anything about that, or it will be a disaster," the former Giro d'Italia winner said.

Simoni should be the last person to comment on this one. I've always wondered how he managed to save his face after his stupid accusations, but since Basso's doping issues (which has nothing to do with that) Gibo somehow appears as the righteus one. there are laws against dopers, but IMO such asshole-ism should also be penalized

sorry for OT.. :back2topic:

is this AIGCP exclusion for real?

Simoni's defense to his charge was that it was in the candy he eat. The lab tested it and it was.

from cyclingnews:

"The Basso signing was quickly followed by Amadio pulling the team out of the International Association of Professional Cycling teams (AIGCP). The association's gentlemen's agreement states that any rider suspended for doping can't race in a ProTour team, like Liquigas and 17 others, for four years."

It's not like being a part of the protour was guaranteeing anything these days.
- Zipp rims will break if you look at them too hard
- R-Sys wheels will spontaneously explode
- The ZG crankset will never, ever exist
- Everyone needs Lightweights, even if they're fat and old
- Parts actually made of metal are SO 10 years ago

what does?

can someone please explain who supervises what here? why do riders, who dope with predictable permition/help/acknowledgement/whatever of their teams, and get a 2-year from UCI, face another yet longer ban set by.. the very same teams!...?

what'd UCI (or higher instance) say if a cyclist after doing his time was forced to remain unemployed?

another thing - has this 'gentlemens agreement' it's reflection in cyclists' employment contracts? if not, it sounds like some rules are broken here

Tymen...

You hit the mark here....

UCI since Hein Verbruggen entered the scene is a real disaster.....

ASO is trying to rule by terror..... and random decisions....

All back to the times of "the inquisition" fear rules.......

P.S.
But what is new.... fear is ruling the world......
My bike is Italian so it is Nervosa and of course has Anorexia I like them thin!

A little bit OT; I heard that Vino is keeping on training and wanna be back at Olympic Games (as his ban was of just 1 year).

So if it happen something like Basso/Liquigas, it means any team could hire him.

You have a source for that? Last thing that I had heard was he was hanging up his wheels and opening up a hotel or restaurant in Kazak.
