Do you bring beer to your mechanic?

Whenever I have a repair, wheel build, etc that needs to be done, I bring a six pack of Duvel or Stella to thank the mechanic. Its a cheap way of saying thank you.
Yesterday i did the same and was miffed because I didn't even get a thank you when I dropped it off. I guess it was a conditional gift and I need to give without expectations. Just ranting a bit.

I do the same (well technically my dad because of my age) but I think this is a tradition for good mechanics, that sucks he didn't thank you last time though!

Who do you go to? I regularly bring beer to the guys @ Vecchio's as Peter and Sean always take care of me and the juniors I coach. Peter really helped me out when I got hit by a car a few years ago, both with the insurance issues and just talking to me about it (as he'd been hit from behind previously).

when I work on friend's bikes (rarer and rarer these days), the payment is beer, and pizza for more extensive work. Usually they hang out in the garage with me, watching me work on their steed.

Guys bring me beer for wheel repairs, broken spokes and straightening all the time.........Thats why I'm 8 kgs from my race weight!
I think its all part of an elaborate plan to slow me down some more

My guys would probably be fired for having beer in the shop (and I don't know if they are even 21) so I usually tip them enough to buy some lunch......or beer if they want.

We call it "chain lube" but I think its a great custom. Developing a relationship with your mech/bikeshop is very important. They will look after your interests and often provide service far beyond what others recieve. They will go out of the way to help me with my P.I.A. requests. Its not just the beer IMO but showing respect to those that often get little. I sometimes take them to lunch as well.

I once asked a mechanic what he drinks so I could properly thank him (its usually some exotic micro brew or Belgian beer) and he said Miller High Life.

It was actually harder to find than micro brews at the liquor store.



I do most wrenching myself- but wheel builds are another story.

+1 for saying "thank you." Do it with beer or some other form of tipping because they're not breaking the bank working on your rig.
