I was in my first year of graduate school when Reagan was elected on a Tuesday. Not that I was a big Jimmy Carter fan, because I most assuredly was not, but as I was on the West Coast, by Tuesday evening, it was clear Reagan had been elected. I was so concerned about the possibility of that resulting in a nuclear war, that I had to really think about whether it was worth studying for a big test a day and a half later, as I didn't see a good payback potential when the future of civilization could be so short. Fortunately, I was wrong ... and I did end up studying for the test, and aced that son of a bitch, and in the process, beat out a few people who are now famous professors.

It's not even the end of February and Northern California road racing has already started. Thankfully I'm too slow right now to race so I went for a nice long training ride instead. Went up and over into Santa Cruz, then back over and down. 200km and 3200m elevation. Currently recovering with leftover valentine's sweets.

Was out in the Santa Cruz mountains today too. Lots of climbing and service road action! Some stuff I hadn't done before.

Over here in California the weather was like spring today, I had to take off my warmers and gloves, and by midday I even had to unzip my jersey on the climbs. :unbelievable:

basilic- that Mole road is pretty steep once you get past the last town! That wasn't you on the Saxel yesterday was it? Someone was stopped to take photos. I did a great loop w/ the Saxle, Cou, and back....then got hit by a car 2km from home on Malagnou. Used up one of my lives on that one but came out w/out anything more than a bruise and a scratch.
