What's that, the bridge? Don't suppose you'll be watching them on Thursday will you? I'll be on Gun Hill again, it was good last year.

@ Routier-

No, the hill they're just starting to go over to get to Bosley crossroads is called The Dumbers. Its far harder coming at it from the other direction though.; you just cant get into any kind of rhythm.

I can't get time off work to go and see it on thursday. Should be nice up the top of Gun if the weather forecasts to be believed ;-) its just a pity its too far from the finish to have any outcome on the stage (like always....)

Have a good day and don't get eaten by the bitey b*stards that seem to be living in the long grass up there.

Will do! I know what you mean about the A54 being hard that way, you never seem to be able to get going on it.

A rare post for me in this thread, but it's a favourite of mine. Love looking at all these rides.

I drove down to Port Fairy, Vic, Australia for work leaving this morning. I got in around lunch time and the day was do nice I didn't even go into the office, straight on the bike and on the road. Spring is finally here!

I forgot my Garmin which made a nice change, I just rode around with no real destination in mind. I cut the ride short though, after no less than 9 magpie attacks in under 2 hours....the perils of spring time country riding in Aus I guess.

, and @wobbly

sorry I forgot to answer.

We've had some rain the day before, but the forecast was for improvement. The Stelvio was closed to cars on that Saturday, the road was teeming with cyclists above prato, lots of mtbs, families, etc. A light drizzle turned into rain, then snow at around 2000m. The road was closed near hairpin 20 or so, about 7 km from the top (near a big building/hotel). I went beyond the barrier, up maybe 4-5 hairpins, turned around where some snowslides had come down across the road. That's why the road is empty on the picture, it's above the barrier. An italian rider came up the same way, carried his bike over the snow, and continued, he said he didn't think there was much avalanche risk higher up (I chickened out...). The ride back down was painfully cold
Others in our group rode straight to Ofenpass/Fuorn, and had only a few drops.

Do you ever get hurt in magpie attacks? Can they cause you to crash?

Some can be quite nasty and go for the face/ears. They do draw blood if they get you good. But probably the most dangerous thing is the rider losing control/swerving into traffic during an attack. Its really funny to watch someone else get attacked, but I hate the buggers!

jvanv8: You were onto something... I was adjusting the screws on the rear dropouts and flipped the bike.. Out came at least 500 cl worth of pretty smelly water. Must have been in there since a really wet TT i did in September last year :-)
