On that note, is there anyone else on WW aside from Jamie who frequents some of the routes of this year's TdF?
Getting first-hand pictures of what's happening at the moment is really interesting, adding on to pastronef's note about flooding via twitter.

the next in line will be called Déjà vu all over gain.
re TDF roads: the last mountain stages (north of Madeleine) will be fine. The roads are dry on Tamié, Epine, Semnoz etc, and no big mountains above with snow to melt.

Mont du Chat seen from Mont Revard (you gain 1000m in 10km).

I will be there in 3 weeks! Staying in Aix Les Bains as I did last year. I wasn't aware of Mont Du Chat Until I climbed L'Epine and descended down the other side only to have to climb up to the top of Mont Du Chat in soaring heat from the west side. And with 39 x 27 it wasn't pleasant. The descent down to the lake was so steep I had to stop and give my hands a shake to get the feeling back! I will however attempt the climb from the east side as your photo shows this time, again with a 39 x 27, wish me luck!! :D

Good luck. The lake side is a real climb - often acknowledged as the hardest in France. It's relentless but the gradient is fairly constant. And they sell really good plates of chips at the top! Enjoy.

If in the area, also consider taking up the challenge of the four sides of the Grand Colombier in one day.

Yeah I see from climbbybike that Mont du Chat maxes out at 11% and averages 10%!! I will remember about the chips thanks!

I did the Grand Colombier last year on the stage the Tour went up it and that climb was fantastic. I will do that again (not from all sides though!) from Culoz but I have a feeling it will feel a little creepy without the atmosphere I now associate that climb with! I plan to descend to the west and forking right to avoid the suicidal section.

Mont Revard is also a superb climb, not steep but long and you can really crank up the pace on that climb. Of course, there is Semnoz too that I will do again. Can't wait!

Blown myself up spectacularly on the Joux Plane, twice! Morzine sportive both times, opted against it this year, too much travel last week, looks like it was nice tho.
