Wow @basilic: Not to take away from the other posters' great pics in this thread, but whenever I see your name as the last post I always have to check it out. You did not disappoint.

Yes, great pictures basilic. You bring back fabulous memories of a vacation with my father when we did Moncenisio every day (stayed in Susa), along with the Izoard and a few others...

@basilic: Those are some great shots (as always)! What camera are you carrying with you on the bike that allows you to take such nice photos?

Oh my goodness.

Here is my ride from today. Did a long dirt climb. Super steep in parts.

Dawn on Lac d'Annecy

What a roller coaster of emotions today. Started off making the front group at the etape and finishing 45th. Ended at Sallanches hospital, looking after a good mate (great bike rider) who crashed in the JPP and is going to need back surgery tomorrow to decompress his spine after crashing on a descent where the choice was car or ravine :-(

Saturday 100km ~45km climbing.

Four partial repeats of Mt Buller. Turned around first lap due to the thick slush and falling snow at Andrew's car park ~12.5km in.

Image

Next three repeats were to Box corner around 11km in. Still a couple of kilometers into the snowline, but slush not as thick.

Image

The only others not in a car. Dropped in for a cup of tea on the descent.

Sunday 82km

Learn't the hard way that it really depends on the day and who is working at the entrance if you are allowed on the Mountain. Sunday cars weren't having to fit chains, weather was looking a little better so was keen on another couple of laps but I was stopped! Reason given is that once the toll opens, VicRoads hand control of the road to the resort and although not mentioned anywhere that bikes are banned we are a hazard with numerous buses and inexperienced drivers making their way up the mountain.

So instead of being passed by cars going under 60km/hr, I turned around and rode to Mansfield return plus a side out and back up towards Tolmie on 100 km/hr roads... :roll:

Basilic, you've got a great eye - right down to the blue sky reflected in the hotel window. Fantastic series of shots, you must have had an awesome weekend! :thumbup:

thanks for the nice comments guys. Hautes-Alpes and Piedmont are great areas for riding, recommended.
@WillT: I carry a panasonic Lx5
@jmilliron: what tires are those? I had grand bois 26mm (actual width 27) slicks and wished for something bigger/grippier on the dirt roads. I'd say cross tires would have been a better choice on the Finestre/Assietta stretch
@dalai: I feel for you in the snow...
@wingguy: I wish I could claim intent on the window, I just snapped the picture before people moved across.
@calnago - I am adding col de Granon so it's not text only

@ultyguy: is your friend ok?

Agreed. Love all the photos, but Basilic lives in cycling nirvana as shown through his photos. Is there much IT work in Geneva? :thumbup:
