Yep, -16 in Latvia too, but I managed 45Km. Could probably manage 55Km before I would actually die.
No pictures outside, as my fingers were frosted solid, but I made picture few minutes after I was indoors and able to move my finger to take a picture.

Whole face was white and frosted, no snow outside tho.

A few pictures from yesterday...the rest will be on the blog shortly.

The nice thing about winter around here is that I can get better photos. During the summer, everything pretty much looks the same--a tunnel of trees.

Definitely nice pics xrs2! What post-processing are you doing on the images? I get a similar effect during post-processing with a copied, blurred layer with a lowered opacity so that the background layer still shows through. It certainly gives the images great atmosphere! If you're not doing manual post-processing, I'm curious what setting or filter you're using to give you the atmospheric effect?

I'm doing exposure bracketing with 3 images, -0.7, 0, and +0.7 EV, and then I combine the 3 images to make a true HDR photo in Photomatix. No further manipulation except I usually have to reduce the intensity of the reds and oranges. I don't know why but my camera makes red and orange unnaturally prominent.

HDR photos are best when you use a tripod, that way there's no shift from one image to the next. However, I of course don't carry a tripod with me.

I can assure you anyone can do it...I am a very long ways from a professional photographer, but I am trying to get better.

xrs2, nice photos, eerie light. What is HDR if you don't mind?

HDR:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging

There are filters (and scripts) in Photoshop that can fake this effect to varying degrees.
There are even software apps specific to this...
And the iPhone 5 can replicate HDR effects "built in" with each image taken, on the spot.

But, in the end, it's the subject matter which makes an HDR photo work.

Travelled with the family to Baguio, about 250km from Manila. Took the morning off to do some rides.
