Tour de l'Ain stage 1

Pro winning time 3:45 (41.5 kph)
CORRECTION
'Amateur' winning time from 158km, 8 man break 3:40 (42.5 kph)

Actually made the winning break, saw it go and turned to my buddy and said 'that's the winning break.' Made a huge effort to get across, rolled with them for 70km, every other riders had fresh bottles every 15 min, rein pour moi. Won the intermediate sprint at km 55 but was just cooked. To be fair, even with bottles, I would only lasted another 40k at best. Did a crapload of work for no gc gain, but learned a bit more bout myself. Got a free coke when pulled over in a town hunting for water before the peloton showed up. A bit f'ed for the next 3 days, oh well. Finished in 3:48.

If you ever want a well run, closed roads, high level 'Cyclo', can't say enough about the organisation.

Tour de l'Ain stage 4

Cruised in today with one of my all time cycling heroes, David Moncoutie. What a class act and all around nice guy. Watching him ride uphill is like watching a balloon float into the distance, mesmerising!

We had to go up and down the Grand Colombiere. David is still a pretty cautious descender, and it was a hairy descent, and the guy is retired anyways, so we caught him up and rolled into the finish in a group of 10.

[quote="JamieL"]Enjoying my last few days living in the Pyrenees - 2500m on saturday then 3000m on Sunday. Hillclimb tonight will be FUN.

Cirque de Troumouse on Saturday: The best climb round here. Honestly if you're visiting to have a go on the Tourmalet you should have a look at this road:

Correct! I've always thought it's a bit of an odd thing to have up there TBH.
