What age can you get a baby in a trailer? Mine's only 10 months but I'm aiming for the spring.

I started putting my son in there when he was old enough to sit up on his own and could handle his own bottle/sippy cup. I waited until I thought he could handle it ok back there on his own. I've mostly just taken the kids on rides around my neighborhood. This was only the second time I've gone more than a couple of miles with them. Little kids get bored with stuff like this pretty fast. The both of them fell asleep back there before we got back to the car.

How long can you use those trailers for? I'm thinking about getting one soon... when my daughter is around 3.

I started putting my son in there when he was just under a year old. My older daughter is 3 1/2 now but is very big for her age (supposedly she's the size the average 5 year old). I think my daughter will be ok in there for another couple of years.

So if your daughter is an average sized 3 year old you've got a 2-3 years to use it. It depends on the trailer though also. Some can probably handle more weight and larger kids than others.

But at some point they'll be big enough for something like this

There's a guy near us who latches two kids onto the back of his system six, and then hits a 8-10% hill for 3 km.

It's like watching "Rocky", except in bike form.

Thanks for the information, that's really useful information. I'm looking at options for dropping my daughter at child care before going to work... leaving the trailer behind, preferrably. She's tall for her age, but I doubt she's any heavier.

You mean like the child seats that attach to your bike just behind your seat? Well...I didn't really want to put one of those on my bike. It's just not intended to have one of those on there. But I had thought about getting a beater bike to put a seat on...or possibly just a cheaper city/comfort bike.

And also I knew we were going to have another kid when I bought the trailer so I knew I'd need something to seat two eventually. I found my trailer on clearance at Target for $35 (that's dirt cheap in my view so I couldn't pass it up). Now it's not the best one in the world but it'll do for short rides around the neighborhood and maybe some point A to point B stuff. If I was going to do some extended rides with it I'd look into getting something a little more robust like a Burley or a Trek. I saw a pretty nice looking Trek trailer at my LBS the other day....but it was $$$ compared to mine. But my kids don't really have the patience to sit back there for hours. Also they grow up so fast. Before you know it they are riding their own bikes and the trailer will just sit there until you decide to Craig's-List it. So I have opted not to spend the extra coin.

Yeah, those seat things. I really can't see one of those going on the back of my TI commuter either... see lots of them used in London though.

I´ve taken both kids to kindergarden in a carrier since they were about 1½, at age 5 the oldest started riding by himself, so now the youngest is alone in the carrier except when it really pours down

i've seen a guy in swiss television with an old scott mtb(15 kg), a trailer with 2 kids inside, 1 kid in a seat behind his saddle, and his oldest kid was riding on an own bike, but daddy had to ride next to her and push her uphill with one hand. pretty talented guy...
i've started taking my son in the chariot trailer when he was 3 months, he always fell asleep after few minutes, so he didn't get bored.now he's really interested in watching animals and stuff, so i have to ride slowly.
these trailers are cool for 2 people with different physical levels riding together. if i rode with my wife allone she would kill me for riding fast just before i die of being bored. but when i take the trailer, we're about the same.
btw, pretty nice bike for your little girl. i'm looking so much forward to put together his first bike. plenty of time left at the moment though...
