so, while browsing velonews' article on "Why Tailwind pulled the plug", I noticed this:

velonews wrote:The ascendancy of Slipstream Sports next season with an expanded European racing schedule and the recruitment of such riders as Dave Zabriskie, Christian Vande Velde, Tom Danielson, Magnus Backstedt and David Millar will help fill the void. The American team will be bucking for a wild-card bid to start the 2008 Tour.

When did Danielson get signed? I did a quick search on google for "danielson" and "slipstream" on cyclingnews.com and velonews.com and got nothing but race reports and results... was this a typo or did velonews just let something slip?

Is he going to ride for them and continue to work with Ferrari? Or does he no longer work with the good doctor?

According to Danielson he's signed with someone for next year but won't announce who until 1 September. I think Velonews have let slip who it is.

Denver Post, 8.24.2007 wrote:"Denver cycle team to sign Danielson"
By John Henderson
Denver Post Staff Writer

Tom Danielson, the Durango resident whom Lance Armstrong once called his possible successor, will sign with Denver-based Team Slipstream/ Chipotle, team director Jonathan Vaughters said Thursday.

Danielson, who joins ex-world champion time-trial specialist David Millar, gives Slipstream/Chipotle a stronger spoke in its race to qualify for next year's Tour de France.

Danielson, 29, won the 2005 Tour of Georgia, and Armstrong took him under his wing on Team Discovery Channel. However, Danielson's star failed to rise. He abandoned the 2005 Giro di Italia with an injury and failed to make Discovery's Tour de France roster last month.

But when Discovery lost its sponsorship after the race, Vaughters wanted him on his fledgling team.

"He's a big natural talent," Vaughters said. "He went to Discovery and got caught up in the whole 'next Lance Armstrong' thing, which he is not."

Vaughters said Danielson, a former mountain biker at Fort Lewis College, is capable of winning mountain stages.

"I don't know whether he'll be able to recover from day to day like Lance did," Vaughters said. "In a one-day race, it's not important. He can win a stage of the Tour de France without a doubt."

I think he's got a good future in cycling if he can continue to develop. He's won some stuff sporadically but nothing consistantly. Couple of years ago he won Tour De Georgia. The next year he finished second to Floyd and beat him on Brasstown Bald. What's he done this year?

^^ - recover from illness? It seems like he's had ongoing medical issues for the last few years that have overshadowed some of his potential. If you believe what the press release said anyway
