for those who don't speak or understand Dutch:

Phil Gilbert will test his s-works roubaix today in GP Le Samyn, the bike will be equiped with a lockout for the future shock system.
If this becomes available to the public I might be considering this bike (but I doubt it since this bike is also equiped with rim brakes..)

But I could be wrong

Because it is a marketting gimic and tire size and pressure have much more of an impact on handling and comfort than a shock above or below the headtube ever will.

"GCN: Tom Dumoulin's Giant Trinity | Abu Dhabi Tour 2018"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDCJakoaa84#t=60

As you can see on screenshot below (also noticed by GCN presenter) Dumoulin TT shifter have 2 buttons on each side.
Current dura-ace tt shifters SW-9071 (e-tube 9000) and SW-R9160 (e-tube R9100) have only 1 button per side

If you look closer you can see SW-7971 from 7970 groupset, it is incompatible with the rest of e-tube di2 setup
The only way to get 2 buttons is to use ultegra level SW-R671.

May be they put dummy dura-ace shifter for demo by sponsor (shimano) request and forget to change it back to ultegra?

The 7970 DI2 has been out of circulation for a good six years now - remember that it was 10 sp whereas 9070 and 9150 are 11 - so I am amazed that these are still accessible at all, for any reason, be it actual use or just for a photo shoot.

Dumoulin still have SW-7971 on stage 4 start Abu Dhabi 2018
(probably GCN filmed bike on the same day)

(SW-R671 apprears on video on other riders bikes, why D is not using it too)

Something probably wasn't right with it. His bike swap was a big weird, but strong come back. Didn't expect him to come back after that slow change.

Maybe he's really fussy and prefers the button placement or shifter length on the old ones? Loads of people have hacked shift switches in various ways, surely wouldn't be too difficult for the service course to change the electronic guts over from one housing to another if that's what he really wants. Wouldn't be the oddest customisation of a pro bike, not by a long way!

In my mind, its much more likely that the mechanics made some mods and swapped over the guts and that perhaps some solder or wiring in the mod failed.... as opposed to them swapping in some fake, dummy switches for a photo shoot.

I could have sworn that the DA9070 stuff offered TT switch options for both 1-button and 2-button, while 6870 offered just 2-button. I haven't looked at any f the options for the latst stuff.

DA9070 didn't have any in-series 2-button TT-switches, just the non-series SW-R671 as mentioned above.

Now the new R9150 and R8050 don't have any 2 button shifters for extensions or basebar STIs. It's 1 button everything unless you use older components. Shimano in their wisdom have decided that every single time triallist and triathlete should be using Synchro-Shift...

It make little sense to use hacked/dummy SW-7971 instead of unbranded little shifter SW-R671

edit: Tom Dumoulin 2015 tt bike also have SW-7971 shifter with 9070 setup... so, it's his old hack:

Are the SW-7971 long in length? Aren't there regulations about how long the aero extensions can be and some of the taller riders need/want longer bars. Maybe Tom D is just under the threshold in terms of height for allowing the longer bars, but using the older swaitches gets him a few cm's that help him a bit on fit.... maybe?

No, the foremost tip of the shifter is the point at which the aero extensions are measured. If you're on the limit and you put on a longer shifter, you gotta slide your extensions back by the same amount. He might prefer the extra length for the way it feels for some reason, but you can't use it to cheat the regs.

The Dutch Lotto is going to stop sponsoring LottoNL Jumbo. Not sure if it’s directly or after the season but a new sponsor will be announced shortly.

I hope it’s a step forward for the team. It’s a unique combination by combining cycling and speedskating. The team did amazing at the olympics (4 gold, 1 silver and 1 brons medal) and cycling seems to go good as well.
