This next one is not the best photo but I like it because it shows someone on the Crater Rim Mtb trail that runs parallel to Summit Road:

When I took this next one I thought it was a fail but it's growing on me. Shows some of the rockfall (from earthquakes) damaged part of the Summit Road:

I had a flu over Xmas/ New year so today was finally the first day outdoor .....that feels so good! Even if the weather was not that friendly: 3C, foggy, drizzle rain and quite dark. (Canada/ British Columbia)



And with such a weather over here that’s why I decided a few month ago to “invest” in a dedicated winter/ rain bike with fenders and disc brakes.

Blingy bike out on the club ride today, a Cervelo R5 Etap disc. The rider is reviewing it for Cycling Weekly (uk magazine). This copy is built with DT Swiss wheels, Vittoria Corsa Control tyres (haven't heard of those before) and for some reason Shimano rotors. An excellent bike of course but the rider was still finding things to niggle him, he particularly doesn't like the RAT thru-axles. I wonder what this will retail for, north of GBP £8k probably.

Vittoria Corsa Control tyres (haven't heard of those before)

Replacement for the Pave CG III. Same casing and Graphene compound as the Corsa G+ but with wider tread, thicker rubber and a file pattern for grip on the shoulders. They'll be super super grippy on wet roads but I wouldn't run them as an everyday winter tyre unless they put an extra puncture breaker in there, personally.

Nope! The retail version with Zipp 302s (and SRAM rotors) is £7299. Dura-Ace R9170 version with 3.4 rims on Formula hubs is £7399. Cervelo pricing is very good this year compared with Scott, Spesh, Trek etc. The Cervelo version of the RAT is pretty finicky though. The cam on the locking lever is too small and too soft, IMO. Needs a dab of grease to work ok and still gets chewed up if you take it on and off a lot. Shame, because the rest of the bike is incredibly good.

You're well informed! £7k, I hesitate to say that's a bargain but it looks like good value compared with other superbikes. What you say about the Cervelo RAT chimes with what he said.

I found a review of the Corsa Control and it does mention a puncture breaker layer. Why have they not made it tubeless-ready though.

Haha yeah - no freakin' clue! Especially since they have a tubeless casing already developed for the Corsa Speed, why the hell only use it for a TT tread with a life of a few hundred km? As soon as they put a 2000km+ thickness of rubber on and make a 25 and 28 version they'd sell it as quick as they can make it.
