Magpies, Magpies and more bloody maggies!
Moderators: robbosmans, Moderator Team
Just about had enough of the magpies this year. I cannot remember a year where I have been bombed, pecked and whatever as many times as this year. The helmet got hit 9 times in 50 minutes last week. Has it been the same for everybody in Oz?

Happens in NZ too. Rumour is one caused a cyclist death a few weeks back when he was hit by one and swerved into an oncoming vehicle. Touch wood I haven’t been attacked by one yet
Yeah I was out riding with my eldest son and I got swooped but timidly then the assassin had a more vicious attack on my son. Anyway he came off hit the blacktop, damaged himself and his colnago. I carry a selfie stick in my jersey pocket for defence but it can be a weapon as well.

Is the colour of the helmet (like shiny) attracting them?
Tried all sorts of deterrents without luck. Helmet colour doesn't seem to be a factor. They see us as threats but if you are in a group you are safe. At the end of it it is only about 8 weeks of the year. It is only when you hear of injury or tragedy that it is more than a nuisance. They're not very braves having to attack from behind...... it seems that soon as I whip out my chrome stick and hold it in the air as a threat the leave us alone, and that is what works for me

I've had 2 of my racing drones attacked by magpies one of the attacks resulted in a crash that broke the frame
