Y's Road in Shinjuku - there is actually four shops but the best one is the "custom shop" which focuses on custom road builds and stocks some weight weenie parts https://translate.google.com.au/transla ... rev=search .

There is also separate shops nearby that have Road and MTB, City and commuter bikes and a shop for Clothing, Shoes and Helmets.

Compared to bike shops in Australia, some of the larger shops in Japan can be slightly overwhelming due to the sheer volume of inventory they have on display, not just bikes but parts and accessories. It can be hard to know where to start looking.

Bonsai Cycles is worth a visit. They do some cool custom builds with Indy Fab, Vynl and Cielo bikes. It is a small, well curated shop with a café run by a husband and wife team that makes some good coffee and cakes. https://bonsaicycleworks.com/

In greater Tokyo, you could also go and visit Cherubim, I haven't been there, but they make some nice bikes http://www.cherubim.jp/shop/

Second Y's Road in Shinjuku.

There are several other shops along 1 road all within walking distance, including another Y's, I think the Ogawamachi area, lots of sporting goods shops in this area.

EDIT: These are "performance" focused shops if you will. There are also many fashionable and trendy type shops around but I didn't specifically check out any of them.

When I was a kid, I really got into biking when living in Japan. I met the owner when they were in Tachikawa. They were the go to shop in the 70's and he helped me build my Tom Ritchie frame with Super Record parts. Glad to see they are still around.

Rapha isn't really worth checking out unless you are a club member or looking for some Tokyo exclusive. It was out of the way imo.

Consider checking out Ratio &C. It's a Cafe + Bike Store. Missed out on my last visit.

I went to Y's and Cherubim. After seeing this post I went back and looked at my pictures, sure enough that bike porn shop I just happened to walk by was Y's. Holy framesets Batman. Everything from Italian lugged steel to aero plastic bikes.

Cherubim didn't have to much on display, just a couple show pieces. But they were on my list just because of the with they do. I wouldn't go to far out of your way for them. We were only a couple blocks away so we took the detour.

Damn I wanna go back to Japan now. Best trip ever hands down. Have fun.
