I understand the distance is not the same. But how was Kwiato's riding in MSR much different (and seen as smart) then Terpstra's today? He would have been a fool to go all in with better sprinter around him. His typical move would also been hard to make with headwind and he had 2 sprinters behind in the peloton.
He shown in the past (omloop with Stannard, RVV with Kristoff) that he is willing to work if he sees possibilities. This was just a tacticle move to do half turns and wait for his chance, or see the peloton catch up. Sagan lost the race with his move, Terpstra was already in a losing position.

Difference was Kwaitowski was playing tactical to win a race. Terpstra was playing saboteur. One behaviour is competitive, and exciting, the other is actually anti-competitive and definitely makes for poor viewing.
Screw him, cycling needs more guys like Sagan, less like Terpstra.

Here's the moment.
Sagan does his turn and starts to fall to the back of the line. Then Terpstra opens the gap to try and get Sagan to go back in. Sagan be like: "F**k off, d*ckhead".

Looks like a Specialized Chicane.
Hip Brits, need some help here: What exactly does it mean if someone were to call another a "bit of a milkshake?"

Also, Neal Rogers had this to say in the comments section of his race report:
Emphasis mine. I did not know that. Where can I find this ranking of most-to-least liked riders in the pro peloton, so I can judge their next race moves accordingly?

3. Terpstra is one of the least-liked riders in the pro peloton. Sagan is one of the most-liked riders.

valverde is something else . treats races like club rides. Covering attacks, only to get gobbled up, and then win the bunch sprint lol
"Milkshake" = Nice but thick.
Could have been worse, could have called her a "butterface" or a "two bagger."

Terpstra could have raced for 2nd place/podium, the way he played it he raced for 4th. Not smart any way you look at it.
watched the last ~25km again and it seems like Terpstra did everything right except for working with the breakaway companions. while GVA or Sags took massive pulls, Terpstra seemed like "few pedal strokes here, few there". when the two rode off, he was totally schizophrenic - working, not working, working a bit but then pulling off, looking with Sagan at each other like the victory wasn't even remotely important.
had they had frame pumps there would've been a bloodshed for sure

terpstra made a pull at the front with the group of 5 for a turn. imho terpstra can play those games when you are in a stage race and a contendor is in the lead group, OR when you are in the last 5km of the race, OR when you have a teammate in a group in front.i didn't like that he didn't at least come through in the pace line. Dudes who dont wanna work can roll right through and take token pulls, but missing a pull 3rd in line with like 10 seconds gap on group behind . naw . Terpstra is only claiming gaviria and boonen behind to cover his action.
also boonen in interview with cycling news said he told niki to ride, because he could try something in the finale. "There was a misunderstanding about whether to co-operate or not. That's why those two were able to ride away. Nikki was doubting for a moment. It's was a misunderstanding because I said that he should ride along. I said he should try something in the final kilometres. Then we lost communication with each other, also with the car. It's a pity when you see the result, knowing that you were up there with seven men in the two groups," Boonen said."
" "There's been a mistake, that's true. Nikki should've been on the wheels. He was told not to ride because Gaviria and Boonen were coming up behind them. They came back to about ten seconds but of course it wasn't the goal to let those two ride away," Lefevere said."

Terpstra is known to be "cagey". He said it was Sagan's responsibility to "respond to the attack". Video showed different - it was no attack. Just a guy trying to pimp another guy in the break. After MSR, Sagan needed to show he won't mule for other guys. Terpstra screwed it up because he lost initiative. he played a passive aggressive move, after taking "eggshell pulls" earlier in the break. Should have just followed the wheels, continued with soft pulls, and waited for an opportune moment to attack, and hoped Sagan and GVA cancel each other out. Instead, for all the strength that team has, they up with nothing. Better for Sagan to throw this race than Flanders.
