@Squashed: You should have posted a close up of that big slip that's in the background of your last photo above - it's big, hope the road stays ok, that would be bad to lose that end of Summit Road when the Lyttelton side is still closed.

@kingtom and other avid photographers: what's your picture "strategy"? I always find it cumbersome to get my phone out the back pocket, unwrap it from the plastic cover (sweat protection), before taking a picture. Does anybody have great tricks to share?

My ideal scenario would be to have a little camera hidden in the vents of my helmet (not a gopro, that't too big) and to have a button to trigger it.

I use a water resistant/drop resistant/sweat resistant point and shoot. It's robust enough to keep in my back pocket in any weather without a plastic cover, and I can whip it out and get decent photos on all but the most intense training rides. Image quality is probably not the best, but it is a few years old (Olympus Tough TG-3) and the newer models have RAW output, and, post-production is also a thing.

The S7 is waterresistant. So i can take it out from the backpocket directly.

Same. No need to carry one more device. Double tap on home button and I can take pics right away, plus selfies are easy. I take all pics while riding, using the phone with only one hand.

Great pictures, Kingtom. Zurich is such a great city and excellent place to kick off a trip to Europe. I skipped the annual Alps rode this year in favor of just riding back home in the Pacific Northwest. I'll be back again next autumn.

I gave my last upgrade credit to my other half so I'm still on a Samsung S5.

Takes reasonable photos though not always and not as good as my Canon s100, which has much better photo quality but still reasonably small. Trouble is I hardly ever can remember / be bothered to take the Canon with me.

The biggest issue with the S5 is that even though it's water proof and I have it with me on all rides, if I whip it out most often the screen won't work properly because it's damp. So the camera virtual button (hold and drag to activate the camera) is hit and miss.

The S7 camera activation sounds better - Kayrehn, is the double tap home button a standard setting?

Kingtom's amazing photos on his S7 have me thinking I should upgrade...
