I bought a pair of used Sidi Genius 5 (used once) shoes on ebay size 40 and they fit too small. I have worn Nike Lance Armstrong shoes for the past 4 years size 40 (American size 7) and they fit like a glove. I thought 40 was 40? Can anybody else elaborate on this before I try to order Sidi Wires over the net.

Thanks

IMO: Sidi's are a little tighter than most, but American brands seem to fit larger/wider than Euro brands.

I run 42 Sidi and Fizik.

Thanks for the heads up as I thought a 41 might be pushing it :)

When I was in the UK last Christmas, I noticed when window shopping Nike running shoes and Merrill hiking shoes, the shoes did not have a one-to-one US/UK/Euro conversion.

UK US EURO
8 8.5 41-42

For what it is worth, I wear US size 8.5 in Nike running shoes and own Sidi Wire and Sidi Dragon in size 42, which when worn with Swiftwick Aspire socks, I find to be a good fit.

Sidi shoes tend to be manufactured based on Italian foot measurement.
While I have my normal everyday sneakers in size 41-42 I have the Sidi Wire SP in size 43.
The fit for a narrow foot is superb.

the size is not completely standardized, and denotes the length not the width. And even within the same brand that might change slightly over time if the manufacturer tweaks the last. I ride in Sidis (I have a B width foot and need a narrow shoe) and used the Ergo 2's for years. This year I replaced them with a pair of Wires in the same size and the new shoes are a bit shorter in the same size.

Sidi run smaller. I wear 43 in Sidi, 42 in Specialized and Fizik, 41.5 in Northwave.

Anyone that can compare Sidi toe box and the width over metatarsal bone with Giro shoes (Factor and V-90)?
Well, also length of shoe...

I just replaced my Giro Factor size 45 with Sidi Wire Vernice size 46, length about the same, little bit more width

The way I always understood Sidi sizing was that they tend to run a bit snug but if length is not the issue going to a half size would result in a shoe that was wider, so a 42 might be X mm in length and a 42.5 would be a 43 upper on a 42 sole, resulting in a wider shoe. I might be remembering that incorrectly, but it was something I was told or read a very long time ago.

Yeah, i've seen the same, the full sizes have their own sole, shared with the next half size up, the next half size up uses the next full sizes outer, but taken in slightly to match up with the smaller sole. Essentially.
So it's slightly longer and slightly wider. Which is what you want.

Depending on model i take a 41.5 or 42 sidi. Pretty much everything else i wear is 41.
