Strong rechargeable headlight
Moderators: robbosmans, Moderator Team
Hi all
I’m considering a strong rechargeable headlight.
I have been looking at the LED Lenser F1R.
http://www.ledlenserusa.com/f1r-428.html
The headlight puts out 1000 lumen for at period of 2 hrs.
The headlight can be used both on and of the bike, is powerfull and rechargeable.
Any comments or suggestions to another make/model?

Led Lenser products are excellent. I have 5 of their torches and all are great. I have a Light and Motion rear light which is also excellent. For a front light on my bike I have a Bontrager Ion 700 light which is excellent as well. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these.
MAMIL? Never. O.F.I.L. yeh! (Old F**ker in Lycra)
I've got this..

Nice solid build .. good .. at 1850 Lumens way more than your requirements.. multiple modes including my favourite heartbeat mode.
So far so good.. battery life about the same as specified..

Don't use a torch type light for road riding, the beam pattern sucks, you'll waste half of your light and blind oncoming traffic, or blind yourself with a hotspot on the road 3m from you if you aim the light down.
I'm running a Cygolite Dash320 - it still fits into my jersey pocket and is good enough for 2h rides in full dark.
I used to have a Cree 1500 lm light with diffuser lens and external battery, but haven't used it since I got the Cygo. BTW, the matching Cygolite rear light is also good, but I'm on my 2nd one as the 1st one melted during charging.

I've been happy with the Cateye Volt 1200
Plenty of light for commuting in pitch dark, a powerful strobe mode for daytime visibility; easily removable; charges last at least as long as the advertizing claims.

Cateye has a new, slightly more powerful one also.

I love my Light in motion urban 800. That thing is a powerhouse and is nice and compact. I use it on late night gravel rides and fast early morning rides all the time. Like it was said before L&M is made in the USA and will take care of you if something were to go wrong with the light.
I've been using light and motion lights for the past 12 years, the last 7 with the Seca 1400. I have 2 of them. The original batteries are still going strong and they work perfectly for the unlit rural roads I'm on in the pitch black, especially the 40+ mph descents.

The weights seem to be all over the place. Which is lightest (pun intended) ?

I've got a Bontrager 800 RT, 122gr.
Being able to change between modes using my garmin or remote is just so easy, i put it on my helmet and change from 800 to 200lm when there's no need for that extra light. When in a small group talking to someone they appreciate it not having to look into 800lm .

Lezyne 800XL for me.. will usually last about 2hrs on full blast.. though the rubber mount is a bit too smooth and will cause the light to slip and rotate higher over time if you're hitting the backroads.
