After a couple of weeks of plunging mercury ending with dodging ice patches at 3 in the afternoon and wondering if I can justify buying a pair of tights designed for use in the arctic circle, the thermometer has shot back up to double figures! So it was all vents open, lightest pair of leg warmers and a trip around the coast.

Only half as dirty as yesterday... But I should really start using the winter bike!

^Does anybody give you comments on that Emergencyvest, kingtom? People call mine the boob roll, the girly top, and such. Super garment in my opinion.

Lovely area you ride in, wingguy.

Been so warm and dry in the Pyrenees that a few wildfires have broken out - Super hazy...

[emoji23] yes, it looks a bit like a boob roll.... [emoji23] [emoji23]

But, i didn't get any comments. In fact, that doesn't matter at all. I ride sometimes in the dark. With this west i'm sure that i would be seen. [emoji6]

Please remember to write where the photos are taken guys. It makes it a lot more interesting.

@MoPho: That is really strange composition in that picture, but for som reason it works really well.

Thanks, it's pretty cool! In fact, I decided to take a tour around some of the best sights today.

There are some great views from the highest road in the county. Honest.
Image

The well known Hardy Monument. Visible to ships from 100km away on a clear day. But today from 100 feet...
Image

The well preserved earthworks of the iron age hill fort at Eggardon. You can tell how much effort went into building these things and how difficult it would be for a direct assault to have any chance of success. Good day for a sneak attack though.

What a difference a day makes 8) Duck egg blue sky with some broad strokes of cirrus is a much nicer look than blanket cloud/fog.

Approaching Bulbarrow hill. Doesn't look like much...

But the road goes straight up the side. Well, this one does. The great thing about the hill is there are about 10 different roads up it, so if you want you can do hill repeats without the repetition.
Image

Never looks as steep as it feels.

The last of the downlands turning into the sharper coastal hills to the southwest.

Gentle, rolling landscape to the north.

Note to self. Must go to Dorset. With bike.

In the meantime, throwback to June and the west side of Col des Champs, France:

If you like hard, classics style roads with steep hill after steep hill after steep hill then you won't be disappointed :D This was tuesday's profile...

Image

And if you've come all the way here, then there's the bigger hills of Dartmoor and Exmoor (Tour of Britain Queen stage territory) pretty much right next door 8)

Nice imposing backdrop in France there! Looks like a road less travelled... :D (And is that a Specialissima? If so how is it?)
