Really awesome ride last weekend from Whanganui to Raetihi (New Zealand) via the incredibly scenic Whanganui River Road. After a couple of days of rain the river was running very high and the road itself, rough at the best of times, had numerous slips and rockfalls to watch out for.

On my in-between days of climbing around the hills of north London I go to a small climb [its steeper than it looks] not too far from my house and do some climbs usually around 20-30 on a rest day but sometimes I hit the climbs quite hard and do up to 50 reps. Always on.the big ring.
Coffee time.

Which North London hill is that? I can't picture it.

Here's one from last night's road bikes TT. 9 miles, 20:36, 4.6W/Kg - WIN!

Matt ,Its spring hill . Springfield park. Its not to far from where I live so I go and do some intervals /reps up to 50 on days that I am not doing a "proper ride" around north London .
keeps the legs ticking over

I was brought up in Clapton " murder mile" so know that area quite well [I survived  ] but like most places in London it has/is becoming gentrified. House prices are bonkers.

True, dat. We had a flat in the building next to the garage on Downs Road. We moved out North to get a house as there was no way we could afford anything round there.

The chip shop in Sandringham road was awesome . That area, dalston especially is hipster city.

A house down the road from me, just 2 bedrooms that has not been decorated since the 50's and was quite run down went for nearly half a million pounds :unbelievable:
We should start a house prices of the WW world thread.

@tugboat, awesome shot of Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe. What is the River path like? Fine for road bikes?

Cheers. You come around a corner at the crest of a hill between Pipiriki and Raetihi and the view across the central plateau to the volcanoes is laid out right there in front of you for the first time since leaving Whanganui some 90km earlier.

The River Road is pretty rough but no problems on a road bike providing you take plenty of care on the descents which are pot holed and may have stray boulders or rocks on the road. I did it on 25c tyres but 28c would have been more ideal. The locals are super friendly and traffic on the road is next to non-existent. Makes for a great half day adventure on the bike.

Nice, going to have to make a good weekend trip out of it, do it both ways. I used to live in Whakapapa Village and kicking myself for not riding more while there.
