Amen to that.
Really? He's effectively on gardening leave until the end of the year, full pay and nothing to prepare for for 2017, what else is he going to do?KWalker wrote:The fact that Gaimon has nothing better to do says a lot...
I'm sure when the wages cheques stop arriving, he'll very quickly find something else to do. (Pretty sure he's got an eye on his future employment prospects already...... unless he's a complete idiot.)

I like Strava and I like Gaimon too.
The only "KOM" I've ever achieved was downhill, and that on a section of road that was used for the Norwegian championship in 2007.

to the guys lumping on Gaimon; is it possible Velonews, in a slow news season, picked up on his results on strava and decided to write an article about it, rather than him seeking the media coverage?
I'm not a fan of Gaimon but I don't hate him either. Seems like a guys just riding his bike, and maybe having a little fun at some doper's expense, while he figures out what to do with his life. And oh yeah, he has some friends and enemies from racing, like any racer does. Not a big deal.

He will likely join Bicycling like all the other social media hipster types or some token related job, but considering he wrote a book talking about all the ways he figured out how to make income while living the domestic pro life I would figure that he would try to make some real cash now.
And realize that only dipshits are truly heart-broken about Strava doping and him taking the lead really doesn't change anything for cycling or the world.

Oh the irony that you link to both social media and strava in your signature but decry them in your post.
Instagram is the only social media I have and I have it because you can't rotate the keyboard sideways and write much. If you click the Strava link you'll notice I haven't actually had it for some time.
I also don't decry them. I think Bicycling and other publications have gone downhill since hiring writers whose only real expertise is gaining followers, not necessarily writing interesting or useful articles about cycling.

Right- and call me out when I call Strava a joke.

I didn't "call you out" or insult you. I disagree that Strava itself is a joke. It's a pretty neat thing for a lot of people, however, a pro taking it this seriously and turning it into an anti-doping crusade AND major publications having nothing better to write about are.
Craven was well known in Namibia everywhere I traveled. Anyone that asked if I was a cyclist assumed I knew him. The roads he is riding on by Omaruru are super dangerous loose gravel with shitty drivers going double the speed limit in a lot of cases.

I just googled this Gaimon guy you're all talking about because I'd never heard of him. Now I have googled him I still have no idea why anyone is talking about him... Looks like he had one good race in 2014 though which is nice

I like to follow the pros on Strava. Don't much care about who has a KOM..although I do have one here in Mallorca going up a hill so small it's got a profile like a teenagers zit..went out riding with Joan Horrach (ex Katyushka) and posse last time the pro challenge was here. Got dropped as they were riding way above my ability level and caned it to get back on. Pop. KOM.
