back to racing... erm, I meant, not-racing. apparently Etixx boys are not worthy of winning the ToQ again..

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/etixx-q ... y-reasons/

I find it mostly amusing, as one of the "just-out" exotic events decides to ban the whole team based upon... 'bad behaviour'. it's either some cultural thing that I'm unable to grasp or the Sheikhs behind the ToQ are just plain morons. this race is dull, and it's probably only happening because some of those rich fellas felt like having a bike race in his yard. we've all seen those middle-eastern bike races last season: hardly entertaining, massively promoting local blings, bringing literally NOTHING to pro cycling but some dough. I'm baffled UCI didn't react to this not one bit, despite the fact I can hardly imagine pros being happy to race there (although I recall Boonen saying it's a good training for the classics - whether it was just a courtesy I really don't know).

It's relatively odd to me that some of you feel like giving Porte such a hard time :noidea:

Have you not heard of durian before? Only a few moments of that drivel should be enough to make sensible people see he's rather irritating (which is not just an internet persona).

Porte is certainly not the only guy who has felt like that around durian.

Qatar is a pretty nice echelon training. Actually I like this race!

And yes, sometimes the big stars just don't get it. A good lesson, I think.

At least in the United States amongst riders I know it is generally considered rude to "invite yourself" onto someone's wheel or ride for extended periods of time. There are exceptions, like when a ride is casual, a conversational group ride, or the rider's acknowledge the desire to chat and continue on together, however, a lot of Freds will randomly just sit on your wheel not tell you they're there, then think its some sort of silent race and attack you or do things similar to DR. Pros get it much more than normal people and are probably more patient, but it can still be annoying to be out doing your own thing and someone randomly trying to prove some tangential point by acting like DR does. Its cool he can "drop" a pro when they're out training on a ride and that's great he feels accomplished for it, but as he and the Freds don't realize a training ride ain't a bike race.

^ this. A pro on a road is a worker in her/his office. Imagine someone disturbing you at work and post the video (and/or edit it, pick what's "good" for him) of your reaction, which may be different for different people and situations.

+ why is cycling so attractive to "food messiah" is funny (not at all...), in this case VegANUS but there are other "food religions" too. Blind faith and youtube/"social" gurus. They behave ALL in the same way (unfortunately I know 1 guy like DR): nutritional "gurus", bragging for fake performances (yes even with e-bikes, Femke is not the only one using them :) ) and with a flock of low IQ followers. Some cliches about cyclists and cycling are hard to eradicate.

lol, the roads are public roads. If Porte or some other twat pro or amateur racer poser who thinks he is pro doesn't like a "fred" on his wheel, then why doesn't Porte or the fool ride off? Oh wait.

Or do what Porte does, try to ride off and think you'll smoke the "fred", get pulled back in and then pull off to the side of the road all upset that someone would dare follow you. Get a grip guys. The elitist attitude being shown has no place in our sport.

What is the elitist attitude being shown?

All we see in that video is a couple minutes of the BMC rider. (Is it even confirmed to be Porte. Anyway, it doesn't matter.) The video doesn't show Porte calling him any names, flipping him off, doing anything unprofessional, or even acting extremely agitated.

The narration of the video is probably a fabrication or at least a gross exaggeration of any actual events. I'm sure we added to his bottom line with all his youtube hits.

It is Porte and it does matter, the debate would be pointless.
You should check out some of DR other videos of him riding with pro teams/riders including Armstrong , Contador , Schleck, and countless other pro teams. You have to hand it to the guy. He can also run a sub 2.50 marathon.
Seems to me that there are a lot of haters or jealous bods. I don't know him personally , I am not a Vegan and a lot of the time his posts come across like he's stroking his own ego but fair play to him for his athletic antics and making the absolute most of where he lives i.e. Cycling in his location. I would certainly do the same if i lived there.

This is the most ridiculous argument ever. If it wasn't for DR's unsubstantiated commentary, this video would be meaningless. And DR has shown before (see previous posts) that he's just after click bait, which is fair enough, as it's how he makes his livingX
Being Australian, Richie is probably somewhat aware of DR floated around on the Internet, and probably rightly knew that the wisest course of action when he saw him on his wheel, was to just pull over and stop, to avoid any scenario where DR could claim to have trained/ridden with him. Unfortunately, DR still found a way to exploit it for clicks.

Richie is a pro. DR is an attention seeker (see lawsuits with Freely). I can't believe this is even an argument.

Maybe people are trying to be polite at first? That's what is commonly done when you're dealing with someone like that and/or just want to avoid confrontation. Its no different than paparazzi in this case in my mind, but Porte and other pros don't exactly want to be as blatantly mean as the rest of us. Just because an area is public doesn't mean someone can pester someone else and the other individual has no right to be annoyed.

Regardless of his physical attributes the fact that this guy seeks out pros to put these videos online to prove some point no one has even asked him to prove and no one cares about shows that he's got some kind of weird mental complex going on.

In the case of us normal riders it can actually be dangerous especially if the follower has no idea of what you are doing. I was doing micro intervals up a climb when a guy thought he would ride my wheel, but he had no idea that I was drastically accelerating and slowing. I went to slow/coast and he crashed right into the back of me. Or if someone is out enjoying themselves, why should they have to get in a pissing match with some random to drop them? In a lot of cases these types get super mad that you pass them and then attach themselves to you.
