Impossible to tell from that shot - off centre photo with wideangle lens is really accentuating it.

[quote="boots2000"]Probably 20 lb.- he is short.
On one hand he can probably lose a good chunk of that with a solid month on the bike.
On the other hand, his chosen career is as a pro bike racer. He should be more serious.

the fact that this guy shows up at the last chance saloon with an extra 20-30 pounds is not at all promising. But I have been a doubter for the past two years, so I'm biased.

Indeed, he makes Jan Ullrich seem to have been disciplined in comparison!

A guy like that needs to have his salary tied to either weight or performance- or both.
Yes, extended camps will help but he has a problem.

Betancur's looks reminds me of footballer Ronaldo, who has genetical weight problems.

Betancur is like most of the posters in the "What do you weigh" and "power profile" threads if they were actually had the power they claimed and were honest about their weights.

Wiggins up to 83kg....
http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/racing/olympics/bradley-wiggins-gains-over-11kg-as-he-prepares-for-olympic-team-pursuit-205328

Interested to hear thoughts on this. He has gained ~15% of mass... wonder how much extra power?

He's gotta be full of shit about his weight. He manages, by his accounts, to lose more between races than pro bodybuilders, then gain it back faster than them too. My guess is no one has quite explained to him the dynamics of glycogen and water storage, both of which increase with resistance training.

11kg of muscle would be impossible without pharmacological assistance. Its beyond the range of what one could naturally gain in that time period. So, my guess is he's taken a pre-breakfast dump full guts weight and comparing it to his rock bottom GT weight for the delta.

The photos are 18 months apart and given he once weighed 82-83kg and dropped to 71kg then it's a lot easier to put it back on when you're trying to. I also don't think he (Wiggo) said it was all muscle. At a guess I would say he was down around 6% BF in the first photo and probably over 10% now.

And as @KWalker says hard to know the condition he weighed himself each time. If it was me though I weigh myself exactly the same time each day and exactly the same point in the routine. The only variability would be water weight or dehydration from previous day.

@borist Sky claim the riders lose no power after losing weight so hard to see why they would gain power putting it back on
