My Fizik R5B's have started to fall apart after only 4months and thus I'm now after an alternative.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

The Fizik's were almost perfect, they hugged my foot very well (it felt like they hugged my heel and came up slightly higher at the back than my old Specialized shoes) and I liked the Boa system a lot, it's just a shame they have started to fall apart.

So does anyone have any recommendations?

MAX £150 - Closer to £125 is an ideal budget.

And I appreciate that shoes are very person specific, that's why if I can i'll be trying on any before I buy. However, hearing anyone's experience on customer service and comfort is always great as a helping hand in making a decision.

Cheers

I have been extremely impressed with the comfort of my Mavic Fury offroad shoes and have heard many others say Mavic are comfy.

I used to have all SIDI but now they are not as comfy - quality has changed as well as fitment.

I tend to wear a bit wider shoe and like a roomier toe box.

I have tried Giro Pro Light and Pearlizumi Octane road shoes with look style cleats - I prefer the Octane. But they are close in comfort but not as comfy as the Mavic for 100+ mile rides.

Get the higher end Fiziks if they fit your feet well. My R1s are going strong on their second year.

I have two pair of 2011 S-works. After I got the first pair, I loved them so much that I bought a backup pair when the 2012's came out because I was afraid they would discontinue them and I would have to go through a selection process again.
But I can't get either pair to wear out. They remain virtually like new, except I did get free replacement of the BOA dials when they started slipping.
I don't think you can go wrong with S-works, reliability and wear-wise. Assuming the are a god fit for you.

I would, save up for the Sidi wire or Ergo3, make sure they fit and shop for a last year color/model ( there is an Ergo4 for 2016) , looks like there are new 2016 colors so the older colors will go on sale big time. They will still be a little more than what you want to spend, however there is a 99% chance they could be the last shoe you every have to buy.

IMO they are the best shoes you can get, I another thread I said if your feet don't fit in sidi there is something wrong with your feet.

I have wide feet and with a little shoe stretching, the right socks and right insole....perfect. Finding that fit all that is not easy

I think we think our bike shoes should fit like our every day shoes, but that is wrong... the amount of work we do on the bike and the time we spend in them, they are really more like ski boots and we really need custom shoes and fit. So to get any good shoe to really work right is going to take some effort.

Shimano may not be the sexist, but they are VERY solid - good insoles (so you don't have to buy aftermarket, which can change the fit of a shoe), excellent ventilation, secure fasteners and a slightly wider toe box than Sidi (which is what originally led me to explore alternatives, and I don't have wide feet). Last two generations (320, 321) have soles with less camber, similar to sidi, than than the older R300 shoe). I've experimented with Bont for quite a few miles, and Shimano are overall better, not to mention much easier fit for the average person.

TBH, the only shoes i've consistently liked over the last 25 years have been sidi, usually in last years, or the year befores colours at anywhere between 1/2 and 2/3rds off retail. Never paid full price for them, never had this years model either :D

Everything else i've had has either crippled my feet (Specialised, Shimano, Diadora, Adidas), fallen apart (DMT, after 3 uses, Scott, 12 months, Nike, 20 minutes, Gaerne, 6 months) or been discontinued (Time Equipe pro, still mourn the loss of those, have two pairs downstairs still in semi regular use)
