Here's an article from the esteemed student newspaper of one of the nation's foremost institutions of higher learning.
http://spartandaily.com/74618/hellyer-county-park-velodrome-is-open-for-bike-racers wrote:Alex Trang, an employee at iMiNUSD Fixed Gear Boutique store in San Jose, identifies what separates a track bike from a normal bicycles.

"A track bike has drop bars, six gears drive and no breaks," Trang said. "Generally a track bike is made up of a horizontal drop out similar to a BMX bike but made of varies material."
That's some damn nice copy editing. That's 4 fubars just in this small portion of the article. How long you (author/editor) be this country? Maybe they need to repeat first grade?

I don't think the misstatement is due to the shop employee (unless he had a difficult to understand accent). I strongly suspect he said "fixed gear drive".

clearly a case of a journalist who has absolutely no feeling with the subject on hand and is just writing down what he (phonetically) heard.
But I could be wrong

Maybe he was talking about the motors and gearbox in Wiggins' hour record bike. :noidea:
