Ah, Rasmussen! You're right! I'd forgotten about him. A bit of Hemopure does wonders for when you're feeling a bit under the weather.

It's usually harder to win when you're ill.

So saline injections may have also improved performance due to combination of placebo and normal benefit of training during the study. Obviously there exists SOME undetectable dose, and hopefully that dose is also below the effectiveness threshold. But assuming doses were nontrivial, the efficacy of these drugs no longer needs proof, so the results are just consistent with what was expected, that performance improved.

They weren't exactly stealthy about the EPO in the programme, a full screen image of the one shot syringe from a major medical supplier with most of the label showing! 5 mins of google fu and you come up with only two possible syringe doses (about 1/2 to 1/3 of medical dosages for kidney failure anaemia).

I don’t know what else to do but smile. I can’t even describe how much pain my glutes and quads are in." After setting the new record Alex Dowsett described the last 10 minutes as "a little grippy"

When judging by preceived/reported effort, you need to take into account that Dowsett is a Brit.

“I was expecting it to be horrific, but it was just terrible,” Dowsett said immediately after his ride. When asked if he wants to have another go, he said: “Maybe after June 7.”

With Rasmussen you can see ribs extending under what would normally be breast. I think that beats Hamilton. He makes Froome look almost Sumo in comparison.

Compare it with a picture taken in July... That picture was taken late October.

Fair. This is what other TdF contenders may look like in October.

http://inrng.com/2015/05/astance-licenc ... -decision/

So the reasoned decision regarding Astana is out. So in addition to countless times when the UCI looked bad by doing nothing (safety issues in the Giro and sprint finishes, railroad crossing) now they also look bad doing the wrong thing in calling for license revocation.

While there surely are some things that improved with Cookson, it is by no means the start over hoped for by many. Especially the ad-hoc and amateurish public communication issues should long be a thing of the past.
