Team tactics maybe ?
Save him from crash possibilities before a major event ?
Don't show off his actual form to other teams ?

Partly this.

Partly the fact that they have a tried and trusted method of getting into peak form at the right time.

Now, this surely comes with a slight trade-off in terms of race sharpness on the cobbles, but I assume that they weigh up the options and decided that having peak physical shape for a 260k race is where they see their best chance.

some nefarious reasons have been thrown out. probably by those that survived the 90's, and got used to riders getting pulled, later to find out they were glowing.

My interpretation is they thought their chances of winning Flanders was better w/ different riders, and this Friday's race is important for Flanders prep.

This has only worked for them in one 1 day race, which already happened. I guess last year was better for them in Roubaix though.

Also, I get DJ's explanation for Flanders but it seems to me that they could just come out and say this rather than give some weird "team policy" explanation.
Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.

Wow! No surprise he wasn't charging for the line in San Remo.

It has to be the camera lens making Cav look so big

I really don't understand Cav's physique. When he's stood up you can tell he's as tiny as you'd expect a pro cyclist to be - on the bike he can look fatter than the average MAMIL in barbeque season.

Yea, just like Alberto in the Dauphine last year...

C'mon guys, this is getting old. It is mostly the deep breathing that makes them look puffy.
(and besides, we know Cav dropped a chain on the Cipressa during MSR and thats why he got dropped)

But the rest of Contador looks lean, arms, legs, torso and shoulders etc.

The same cannot be said of Cav...
