Watched the last 40k of GW yesterday. Epic.
SVDB what a diesel - seems to really struggle with accelerations in the final.
Amazing that Paolini, GT, and Terpstra made up the podium considering: Crash earlier and dropped on final climb, blown into a ditch in race, flat at 18 to go.

Random thought. What happened to Gert Steegmans?

I think the first part of this race was more exciting than the last 40k. This race was easily the most exciting race all year. The conditions were brutal and it really made for some interesting racing. With the usual favorites being out of the game with injuries and with Sagan never having any real support from his team to work with, it makes way for more variety on the podium and it's definitely fun to watch.

Maybe he changed to a spare/training bike which has Ultegra levers to keep cost down (or weight up to 6.8kg)

seems unlikely petal - normally spare doesn't have PM on (see SRM head unit)

Actually they do, power meters are a training device. SRM headunit swap takes 2 seconds and is done nearly every bike change you see.

Ultegra works just as well as DA, why bother when there's a weight limit and you're not sponsored by Shimano?

Boonen is apparantly doing the team recon for PR on the bike and will decide after if he'll race or not. He added he has a 1% chance of starting the race though.

I really hope Wiggo and can put aside his ego and the fact that he doesn't have that much form and ride for G Thomas after all his done for Wiggo over the years. If Sky can go all in for him and if Stannard can heal up a bit, they should be able to take it to a weakened field for Flanders and Roubaix.

Not according to Paolini... http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/racing/b ... ini-164490

I guess we don't really know where his form is right now as he hasn't shown his cards yet

I think Sky have enough experience to be a real danger in PR. Wiggo may not have been considered a contender before his performance last year, but he has plenty of experience on the cobbles. Added to that, they have 2 other potential winners in G and Stannard. And they also have a strong support cast with the likes of Knees and Andy Fenn (who, along with G, is a Junior PR winner).

I think the intriguing thing this year will be to see who goes in the early breaks, and hence which teams try to control it. Without Faboo, Trek won't want to take it on. Etixx have a huge amount of expectation and not a lot to show for it so far this year. Lotto Jumbo only really have Vanmarke so they really need someone in the break and hope SV can surf the other trains until the key showdown. Same with Astana and Boom.

And that's before we know the weather...
