They've always been more than fair and helpful to me (and I've not spent thousands of dollars there but I do purchase from them). FWB reviews also provide a useful public service.

No such thing. May as well vote on prettiest sunset. In the greater DC sprawl I think The Bicycle Pro Shop is simply outstanding. Fresh Bikes is a good shop as well. I liked CycleLife for the people but they all left. I also think Above Category is a cool shop across the bridge from San Francisco.
