We lately do experience the co-linking of F1 and/or F1 drivers to cycling in general ...F.Alonso's cycling team plans, Caterham's road racing bicycle, McLaren's co-operation with Specialized Bicycles and the role cycling in general plays in the fitness program of current F1 drivers.
F.Alonso,Nico Rosberg,Jenson Button and previously Mark Webber are driver names linked to triathlons and/or cycling.

Suggestion:
A TT race on the F1 circuit within the Grand Prix weekend open for all F1 drivers.
A Time Trial race for not more than 3 rounds or approximately 12 to 13kms on the racing circuit could be organized within a reasonable time schedule considering it could be started with 1 minute intervals and would prevent the risk for injuries in front of a F1 race compared to a race with a mass start .

I think this would ideal for the F1 fans to see which driver is the "fittest" on a bicycle within a "fun event" .

It should be easy to find a cycling company to support such an event with equipment needed.

Great idea, it would be much more interesting than the F1 racing itself (and I am a motorsport fan)!!!

CulBaire, it'll be really interesting this year, until red bull fix their overheating issue.

Race weekends are busy enough, drivers won't be up for this. And what if they crash and break a collarbone before a race?

Have you ever raced on a car race track before? I've only ever ridden on Laguna Seca and it's pretty boring. The course was designed for cars going 100+ mph, not for bikes topping out at 30 mph.

Hahahahahah do you even know of Bernie Ecclestone? If it doesn't make him money, it's gonna be a no.

anyone remembers which WC race was ending on a racing circuit (Cipo won)? the finale was pretty dull...

besides, as mentioned, contracts most likely forbid F1 stars from any potentially risky activietes. there's too much at stake financially wise to risk F1 drivers' health for the sake of some rather meaningless (=generating low if any income) event..

of course we could make it another way round and let cyclists race tracks before GP. but let's face it - petrolheads are seldom spandex afficionados. that plus the fact racing circuits, with lots of long straights and easy (from a cyclists' perspective) corners, are as boring as they get. so no, sorry, i don't think that could ever work

2002 WC finished on the Zolder race track in Belgium. Todays stage of Paris-Nice finishes on former F1 venue Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours.

There have been other examples of racing track finishes, like a stage in 2012 Vuelta on Aragon Motorland and if I recall correctly a Giro stage as well (Mugello?).

You do realise it's not quite as easy to drive an F1 car as it is to drive your people carrrier to the local TT course. There is NO WAY you'd get a professional F1 driver to do that much hard work before (or after) an F1 race.

Know his incorporation with F1 since he managed Jochen Rindt and when he owned a F1 team.
So a long time F1 fan

Sorry to say so but this is shallow thinking.
F1 teams and drivers are already participating in countless charity events within their tight schedule .
A charity event is an event where you rise funds for such an org or club or whatsoever but in the same time it brings good publicity and
mostly pays back to the participants.
And it is not a secret that especially on Saturdays the F1 lacks more and more spectators during practice 3 and qualifying sessions due to
very high ticket prices and lack of interest in some countries with just a few years of F1 "history".
Turkey is one of the countries which stepped back from filling millions of tax payers money into BE's pockets.
Even Germany with its two GP's having trouble to raise funds for the events.
Search for Baden-Wurttemberg and Nurburgring AG financial eclat.

From a technical point of view a TT on a F1 circuit may be boring but IMO for the F1 fan it would add big attraction to the race weekend.
I do remember having watched TT's on courses with longer straights than any F1 race track has.

Bernie is a shallow, evil man who sells to the highest bidder. That's why Azerbaijan GP idea is being floated right now.

I love both F1 and cycling, but I find the idea neither plausible or interesting.

besides, cycling's a demanding sport as well. if you don't go flat out, you simply look stupid. it's not like having a sunday football charity game or a tennis match, with a lot of space for joking and fun. cycling, and TT in particular, are about constant effort. how entertaing for a weekend crowd might that be?

but... if the F1 weekend included a bike race for kids - now that's another story. that sort of event compared to 'TTing with the stars' involves spectators directly, as it's their kids who compete, thus makes for (possibly) quite a family entertainment
