I've had my D2s for 5 or 6 years now and have loved them since the beginning. Unfortunately, I think their prices have become absurd. I can try to justify it by saying "5 or 6 seasons, riding 6-7 days/week year round," but in the end, $1K is A LOT of $$$$$ to cough up for a new pair of shoes.

There are some good deals on Fizik shoes out there, but cant find any locally to try on. I use 44 2/3 in mavics. What would you think it transferd to in Fizik? 44 or 45?

Does anybody have know of a seller who has the new Giro Factor ACCs in stock yet? It looks like all of the North American dealers aren't expecting stock until the end of March.

They're available in various colors and sizes. Wouldn't be surprised if there is a bunch of holes in inventory. Check giro.com they have pretty accurate inventory usually.

Last year I bought some Louis Garneau ls100's which are real comfortable training shoe but I feel the sole could be stiffer, especially with racing season approaching.
Does anybody ride Pearl Izumi pro leader III shoes? without a place selling them locally, I'm uncertain on sizing and fit. If you own a pair, What other shoes have you ridden and how do they compare?

These are the options I'm considering:

Pearl Izumi pro leader III (245grams/ size 43)

+ great looks
- unsure on fit and sizing
- heel pad is not replaceble

Giro Empire (215grams/ size 42)

+ great looks
+ supposed to be real comfortable
+ cheapest and lightest of the 3
- Uncertain of fit and size, laces might be a nuisance

Northwave extreme tech plus (235grams/ size unknown)

+ bought NW mtb shoes because they fit excellent!
- not sold on looks
- most expensive of the 3

Louis Garneau 2 ls (275grams, size 44)

+ decent fit
+ looks okay
+ second cheapest
- nothing obvious


Any experiences regarding fit, sizing, quality are all welcome.

The PI do look nice.. I'm using the older model of the NW Extreme Tech, love them. I think I could have gotten a size smaller.. I think I got a 44, and I was using a 44.5 in Sidi, but they are stiff and very comfortable.

Just picked up some 2013 Giro Empires in patent black. Size 43. Coming from Sidi Ergo 2 Carbon in the same size, I was able to get the Empires sufficiently tight on my first outing with no slippage issues. I tended to dial the Sidis down hard and end up with a few pressure points using the Specialized BG Fit green/high arch insoles. I'm using the Giro insoles (red arch) which seem good, may trial the BG Fit insoles also. The Empires are supremely comfortable shoes, very happy.

I got the Shimano R260 for a good price and was able to get why more money than I had expected for my old Sidi on Ebay. Absolutely love the Shimano and love the understated mostly all black look. They fit me so well and I think the construction is outstanding.
