Why? Because I have found 3 bikes stolen in the UK and helped to recover them...

that's cool. i'm just curious, is there, i don't know, some forum or website listing the stolen bikes? maybe it's time to pay more attention to what shops or auctions offer..

For the UK, at least. It gives you the ability to glance over recent additions to ebay/gumtree etc. Lots of people that have had bikes stolen will scan this site for a while afterward and have seen their bike show up.

Sorry for them, but they should have taken more precautions: 1 guy sleeping in the cabin of the truck + 2 trucks parked with rear end together.
This kind of precaution has been done since ages, and with good reason it seems.

Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing. Would you volunteer to sleep in the truck and do you have a spare truck to park behind that one? It's been stated that they parked a car behind so obviously they have been thinking about the security.

It's not hindsight. It has been done for decades as I have seen in interviews from Belgian soigneurs and technicians in the Tour. If I was the guy responsible for the material, yes, I would sleep in the truck.

Obviously, there are insiders involved.

micky, do you have access to any pics of the stolen bikes in Italy? There's a lot of bikes that are "almost new" "ex demo" "ex display" etc. on auction websites for a bargain price in a country where I live sold by private guys. I am sure these are stolen bikes from western countries. If anyone has any info about stolen bikes I might take a look at some of these lisitings.

There isnt a website for that porpouse but sometimes they appear on forums.

Just found out the biggest italian mtb forum has a section for stolen bikes.

It's also been said for years that you should never leave your car engine running on the driveway as someone might steal it yet still people do as they don't believe it will ever happen to them. The hindsight is knowing that someone is about to steal your possessions at any moment, not that it might possibly happen some time in the future. Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you slept in a truck while looking after some bikes? I know a bike shop owner that had £150k of bikes in the back of a van, yet didn't sleep in the van and never has (although he did have a state of the art security system admittedly). I dare say that in this case the person overall responsible for those bikes is the team manager and I'll bet he didn't want to sleep in the truck either.

Why do you think there are insiders involved? So are you suggesting that one of the team members is a criminal? I can't imagine that it is too difficult for thieves to follow a team to a hotel and wait until everyone is inside before stealing the parts, without having an 'inside man'.

There was a night porter...They 'had taken all the precautions'. So probably someone from the hotel is involved. Not suggesting it was someone from the team.

Pro Bikes have been stolen all year, and the only real solution is to park towards a wall + sleep in the truck. One of the mechanics should take care for that. I would if I was a pro mechanic. I even keep my bikes in the hotel room while traveling. But that is not the point. Anyway, I wonder where all those bikes end up?
