VW's selling a lot of Diesels here in California. USA diesel sales went up 38% in the first half of 2011 (the only stats I could find quickly) with the Passat leading.
The Passat Tdi wagon has become the car of choice in my mountain area, replacing Subarus and SUVs From what I see they're selling significantly more than a handful. (this article says < 3% of cars in the US in 2012: http://green.autoblog.com/2012/12/13/ge ... les-in-us/)
But my area of California has a much different car market than most of the USA. The most common car on the road is a Prius.
