Donating Bicycle Clothing

Does anyone know where I can donate cycling clothing? I've heard of people sending clothes down to Cuba and countries alike but never bothered to ask how they did so. I have a bit of lightly used clothing I'm not planning on wearing again that I'd like to see go somewhere it'd be given to needy riders that would put it all to good use.

I believe our Riga cycling school would be happy to get cycling clothing for kids, but I believe shipping from overseas and customs would be too expensive.

If you use Facebook, here's a guy in southern Ontario who has sent lots of bikes, parts and clothing to Cuba including several bikes and a box of clothes from my son and me.

Same here- I have about 6-8 kits I never wear that are not smoked out and could use a good home.

That would be a very good cause! I have seen orgnaizations that collect low end bikes and give out to the public, but I haven't seen it with proper cycling apparel.

I will talk to my guys and maybe we could organize some sort of campaign.

I assume the standard would be fore young people who would like to get into cycling but cannot afford the right equipment?

Can I trade them for a box of Cohiba Behike's?

seriously though, I'd like to donate some stuff, what about all the new upstart cycling programs in Africa, is there some way to contact them and send them stuff?

I used to have some contact with Team Rwanda- I'll send off an email this weekend and see what I can pull together. If enough people are interested it would be good to find a poster that has a shop or business with a DHL account, because shipping to central Africa is damn expensive. No one I've asked locally seems to know.

I have plenty of old stuff to donate. So if someone makes a functioning connection anywhere, I would be happy to contribute.

here's another site I turned up:

http://bicas.org/donate/

this one might take clothing, but someone would have to contact them and ask:

I tend to give lightly-used kit to new riders who join various clubs or group rides as well as friends who are getting into cycling. Also, I have donated to various youth organizations. The average teenager can wear the same size clothes I wear. I don't have a lot to give away, but I am fortunate to get a couple sets of free kit every year from friends in the industry, so I try to spread the wealth.

Amen to what Ted said. I came up through an awesome junior program and giving back to them is great. Track down your local junior or collegiate team and donate the clothes to them. There are always kids in those types of programs that can barely scrap a couple hundred bucks together for a used bike, let alone multiple kits (I was one of them once!).
