Piece of tape on brake calipers,why??

A question that I've meant to ask for a long time.But why is there a bit of tape stuck to one arm of most dual pivot brake calipers??Its kind of a cloth tape as opposed to insulating tape.Thanks

It protects the finish prior to instal on your bike.

@ TwiggyTN,thanks for the reply.But while I understand that it protects the finish on the caliper,what about the other 90% of the caliper that has no tape on it,why is'nt that protected??

looking at the left part of this unrestrained brake you will notice some metal to metal contact. when the brake is delivered it has a piece of tape in that location to prevent this.
There's sometimes a buggy.
How many drivers does a buggy have?

One.

Its packing material that most good mechanics will take off once the brakes are installed on the bike.
