Even worse, to get the connectivity features, you additionally need to carry your cell phone. iPhone 5 is among the lightest and is still 112 grams.

Yes but according to them, must be an Iphone or an Android.... not just a phone... so the total package will cost more than 1000euro!!!!!! i think it is too much for a cycling computer.

I just use Google Latitude so my wife knows where I am. I don't bother telling her where I'm riding any more.

I would assume that the majority of the population already has an android or iOS phone.

I agree, a lot of people have this kind of phones, I have one, but i never carry it with me on the bike. I have a cheap one with a twin card just in case.... I am out for the ride, not to socialize though my cycling computer......

Yes -- but when I'm doing an "event" where weight is important I don't carry my phone around. In any case, the point stands that the 510 is 23 grams heavier, and trying to save that elsewhere will likely cost you at least $80.

I plan to buy one when my current Edge 500 has a significantly depleted battery life *and* it can no longer be refurbished *and* Garmin improves the system so that it does not rely upon a mobile phone's network in order to enable tracking.

I wonder if some of the layout will be upgradable to the 800. Not much in the new 810 that would make me want to upgrade.

Has anyone seen videos of the menus? I wonder how the navigation is compared to the 500.

Does this mean the death of the 500 and 800 or are they going to pull an Apple here and keep both?

Edge 510 and 810 released.

The 500 is staying but the 800 will be replaced by the 810.

I don't think I will replace my 500 with the 510 as I like the smaller size of the 500 and the fact they don't support BT 4.0 + smart allowing connectivity to the growing selection if BT accessories. Just hope they update the firmware in the 500 to support more than 3 bikes.

Do you really find it so "bad"? I'm deciding to buy one and this is my only fear buying 510. What do you think - should I go for 500?
