Search the same bike on eBay "completed listings" - you'll get a somewhat current market value there.
Also search your local want-ads (craigslist, or your country's equivalent) for current market value.

+ or - the estimate average based off of your particular example's condition, upgrades, or components.

That's pretty much it.

Nope.

Typically a bike that you bought yesterday and have never ridden is still only worth 60% of its RRP.

And every 'used' bike only has 200 dry miles

Haha was thinking the same thing. Apparently people don't ride their bikes at all because every bike always has only 500 miles maximum ridden on it.

This is usually my approach as well. You can always find deals or absurdly high priced ads, but eBay gives a good ballpark on what buyers are willing to pay.

also google your bike and see if a version of it is selling for less than MSRP. For example, lets say you have a 2010 Scott Foil 20, and google reveals the 2011 models are going for %20 off; then don't expect near that(warranty, peace of mind, etc.).

don't try to say that new consumables (tires/chains/cassettes) are an upgrade
