I'll be traveling to Italy in May for the Giro, staying in Lucca and I'll be looking to do some riding.
Will be going up north for the Mtn stages but also looking for rides near Lucca.
Anyone have any info or tips?

Thanks!

Lucca is a great town but having stayed there I would suggest to stay instead near Sienna where the cycling is awesome, including the Eroica course.

Good luck with the cycling, but there'e no place available to rent in Tuscany ... at least there wasn't 14 years ago, and those things don't tend to change.

Let me know what information you are looking for. I am not from Tuscany, but can put you in contact with riders from the area without much trouble.

Oh, and I believe that there are a few places to rent in the area...

Stayed in Lucca this May. There are many choices of apartment to rent either inside the walls or outside in the suburbs.

PM me if you need details.

The town is wonderful - 4 bike stores. I took my own bike this year, but if I go back I'll rent since the shops have decent bikes (Viners, etc).

There are a lot of great rides in the area with hills to the NE, N, and NW. These are long hills (such a 5-8Km), but not high mountains. Still the ramps can be steep.

The Gran Fondo Citta Di' Lucca is in the middle of May. I rode it this year - great event. Also the GF Diablo (about 15 km North) is the following weekend.

O.k. people, it was a joke. This was from a famous "Seinfeld" episode http://www.seinfeldscripts.com/TheMaestro.htm . Since the OP is from California (American), he should be presumed to be familiar with the show.

Hey guys. We're off for a week cycling in Tuscany next Friday. Going through Pisa, Piombino, Siena, Florence, Bologna and Apuan Alps - about 140km per day and ~2,000+ meters ascent per day.

For those who know the region well, do you have any popinters, any places we should pass by, any special restaurant etc.?

Thanks!!
