I was notified by a protour team that the UCI issued a new rule today that racing with GPS is no longer allowed.
Not sure if this has been mentioned on here before.

Perhaps UCI couldn't negotiate a good "deal" with (for benefit of UCI/UCI officials) GPS suppliers?

I heard it from my business partner who talked to the team manager.
I am not sure why, nor can i find it online so far to verify.

So let me get this right; they've removed race radio's from non World Tour races and now GPS are gone too?

My prediction the next move will be intersections where the riders get to chose one way or the one, ala Snakes and Ladders. One route will take you back to the start, the other is the correct way to the finish.

But from a more real life perspective, how the how do they expect us to find the race hotel post race! :? it's never well signed.

Does any one really use GPS in the race? Even if they equip GPS capable device I've never noticed any pros actively use it.... this is weird.

I know someone heard it from someone else who would seem credible, but I won't believe it until I see it truly confirmed. Makes no sense. If it really is true, then I guess that would be the end of Garmin as a sponsor as someone else suggested.

Given most of their riders use the 500, can't see why this would be the case.

But the 500 DOES have a GPS.

This is really hard to believe.

Breadcrumb trail. Nothing to the level of the 705/800 maps.

I'm betting SRM are rubbing their hands with glee if this is true...

There was talk about how Dan Llyod used to use a 500 to program POI on the route to remind him to watch out in places.

So they are finally facing the rampant computational doping! And only weeks after taking down the long sock consortium!

Maybe it's just a "present" for Vaughters for all his recent anti UCI moves?
