I eat humble pie over the road.when it was announced that box hill was going to be used there was no mention about no spectators . Why would you pick a place where there is most likely to be some action and have no one to see it . It would not look good to the world on tv with no crowd in view. They [ Seb] planned it from the outset or it was poor poor mismanagement ,which is possible but something I doubt otherwise they could have just changed the route . Pendrefeu I agree with you as well . There was a bit of momentum
to get the route changed on a few sights and mags but this seems to have now been put to sleep. Shame.

It's true you have to pay for box hill, but it's much cheaper to see the 100m final, a mere £6.5k.

Even if the stretch of road up box hill is owned by the NT, that doesn't cover whether the maintenance of the road, including re-surfacing for the Olympics has been entirely paid for by the NT. My starting position is to doubt that it has.

On the Cavendish point. You'd really have to go out of your way in the south east of England to design a course that finished in central London (for which there is a logic aside from Cavendish) that Cavendish would not have a very good chance of winning.

Uphill finish can't be done in Central London. You'd need to thow in a ridiculous number of short climbs in the hills to wear him down.

Could finish up Highgate hill west . That would be Cav out of the medals.

That's not central London though. Nice though it is around those parts, they are designing the course with a view to be televisual, and the sights around the Mall do that.
