been lurking in here a while, but thought I'd post a pic/spec of my bike, to see what you think??

It's based around a 1997 Giant MCM carbon (20") and looks a little something like this:

Image

I wanted to get it built first, then I can tune it further, as funds allow.

It was mostly built from parts I had lurking around, hence the hotch-potch look of the bike, but like I say I'm going to be reducing the weight more as time goes by.

There were many goals I wanted to achieve, in building this:

a) sub 8kg
b) Singlespeed
c) sub £500

Spec:

Frame: Giant MCM Carbon 20"

Fork: Pace RC31 carbon with additional V-brake mounts

Headset: Ritchey
Stem: Ritchey WCS 4-Axis (Ti bolts)
Handlebar: Giant Carbon (600mm)
Grips: Ritchey WCS
Barends: nope

Brakes: TRP M920 Titanium (referring to the Ti hardware)
Brake Pads: KoolStop
Brake Cables: Jagwire
Brake Levers: Paul (for Vee's)

Shifters: haha
Front Derailleur: don't make me laugh
Rear Derailleur: not on your nelly
Derailleur Cables: invisible
Cassette: Surly SS 15t
Chain: Sachs Road 8sp
Cranks: XTR M95*
Crank Bolts: Octalink
Chainrings: 1 x Ritchey Alu 36t
Chainring bolts: Onza Alu
Bottom Bracket: Dura Ace 7900
Pedals: Ritchey Pro

Hub Skewers: Controltech Scandium
Rims: Mavic X517
Hubs: Hugi
Nipples: cold and raw
Spokes: stainless
Tyres: Ritchey WCS Z-max 1.7
Tubes: AirB Latex

Saddle: Flite Kevlar Carbon Evoltion
Seatpost: Profile Carbon
Seatpost Binder: Tune QR

Weight........7.6kgs

And I've achieved all my goals.. 8)

Looking forward to your comments (good and bad)

so a few additional bits turned up recently, so I got out there and got them fitted...

kcnc stem - minus 17g
Conti Twister tyres - minus 150g for the pair
Foss tubes - minus 80g for the pair
Steinbach brake levers - minus 65g for the pair.

total weight saving of 312g, should allow me to run a 1x9/10 set up with no difference to the weight.. 8)

So today, after gathering a few cheap bits recently, it was time for some gears... 8)

First on the agenda was a 9sp cnc'd cassette @ 158g 8)

Next up was a roadie Dura-Ace RM, tuned by me to 180g 8)

and to make it all spin, a nice gold Ti coated hollowpin chain :D

Then it was off with 200g of SS kit and DCD, and to make it function, a Suntour XCpro thumbie at 73g, capable of covering the entire cassette range.

A quick change of seatpost and saddle, to a shortened Ti affair with SLR XC leather-clad comfort, and it was all bolted together..

I saw a identical Frame on Ebay, not long ago, you've done well with the weight ( for an oldie), I like the colour also.
I love the transformation builds, more than the buy everything, slap it together builds.
Oh and welcome!!!
:D

Cheers for the welcome, and the comments..

I've really enjoyed the hunt for parts so far, always hanging on for a good mix of weight and £££

I could go 50g lighter on the cassette, for instance, but it would be 3 times the price of this one, and I'm still (JUST) under the £500 price limit.. 8)

Hello MaxTurbo,
thanks for the post over at BikeForums!

I am super psyched to see you've already embarked on the same path as I'd like to with my Cadex. One of the main reasons I was searching for the specs of the bike, was so that it could potentially simplify the upgrading process. I love the work you've done to yours so far. Looks great! So, have you run into many issues whilst cutting the weight? Is there anything I should pay attention to?

Thanks again.
