I like my 800 but i wish the touchscreen can be more responsive, maybe with the new one it will.

Might be interested if it had a larger, higher resolution screen in the same size package. Plus, a good forward facing camera. At least iPhone quality.

The list of possible improvements from the 800 is endless IMO.

The screen is pretty much just crap when compared to the 305, 500 and 705 which all provide infinitely better readability under all conditions...

800 is heavy, but I've come to appreciate advantage of navigation, since I'm prone to taking wrong turns. Even hesitation due to uncertainty in route can cost a lot of time. 500 has some navigation, but weak. I'd rather see a 500 update than an 800 update since I prefer the lighter weight and more compact package.

Yeah, 800 navigation is nice. Did a lot of traveling a few months back and used it extensively.

Also, my 800 is also more accurate in demanding situations then my 500. For example, my 500 sucks on Old La Honda Rd, with its switchbacks and dense tree cover, if it's cloudy. Often times the segment won't even match in Strava. 800 does significantly better.

The resolution of the 800 is no better than the 705.
705: 176 x 220 pixels
800: 160 x 240 pixels

I like my Edge but I think Garmin should have concentrated on a better display than a touch screen when they released the 800. Also the interface for making and following courses is complex, unintuitive and unreliable at best.

Hopefully these things will be fixed before they bother with multi touch (good luck using that while riding); voice commands (WTF seriously?? imagine the idiot talking to his handlebar on your next bunch ride) or Strava connectivity.

Suggestions weren't so well thought out; I agree. In particular, battery life is an issue with 800. I used 500 during Mt Tam Double for this reason, since Is ridden the course before and navigation wasn't expected to be a problem.

That's interesting, as the official reading is that the 500 and 800 contain the same GPS chipset. Is there a difference in the way the tracklog is stored (e.g. 1s interval vs. 'smart' recording)?

I would really like to see an update to both the 500 and 800. Especially the screens and the form factor. Bigger sharper screens, thinner form factor, and an improved UI. Strava integration would be awesome, but I don't see that happening unless Garmin buys Strava.

Yeah, the difference between my 500 and 800 is significant when used in less then ideal situations. Maybe there is something wrong with my 500. It's a few years old now.

I have the same experience with those two. My 500 will always miss connection when I go my usual route, which starts through a forrest. The 800 is a lot better there.

I'm surprised the 800 is the most recent, I thought it was replaced the 500.

What I would like is for the firmware in the 800 (or any/all of the Garmins really) to be updated to read the ANT data transmitted from the new 5 port Di2 connector - we'd get a display of what gear we were in on the screen as well as battery level, etc

They are different units, similar case, different amount of features / price points. 800 does mapping, 500 does not.
