Why has my freehub gone quiet?

I had a classically noisy Campag freehub on my Shamals. I've just moved it to my Boras - simple case of take each freehub off, swap them and tighten. Nothing more than that.

But I find that my Campag freehub is now close to silent on the Boras.

It seems like I need to replace the pawl spring (as Graeme advised me to ;) ) but the sprig was apparently working fine in the Shamals, so why not now? What, in the process of removing it and putting it on a new axle, causes the pawl spring to give up? Or is it something else?

Fixed it. Took it all to pieces, cleaned it, re-oiled and greased it all, straightened a bend in the spring ;) and tightened it a bit ;) and all is now good.

Hmmm. A spring that can be bent has lost it's strength, and may revert back to bent form. That may strand you on the side of the road. I've had it happen to me with an old Edco based hub on a Zipp wheel.
