I used them for quite short period of time (Archetype rims). After having spectacular failure, where one of the plugs was melted down and pusched inside the rim, I thanked them for good.
Stan tape, cheaper alternatives: kapton tape or Tesa 4289 (very similar to Stans).

What about kapton tape on road rims. I have only experience on MTB with good results.
This is lightweight but my concern is related to if is ok to support high pressures (7-8bar)

I found veloplug copies to be even better than the originals. They don't fall out on their own. They are also available for holes down to 7.5mm which originals don't support.

No problem at all, with two layers it held +/- 100psi without any issues.
It is very light, however I fould it has a bit greater tendency to fold aroud its edges (after use, taking the tyre and inner tube off). It is not big deal, the spoke holes were still fully covered.

I can use also 3 layers, is no weight

My idea is to put a first layer only with small pieces and after 2 layers. The problem could be if there are sharp edges at the holes, that with the time could cut the tape.

I have a set of wheels that came with whatever tubeless tape light-bicycle (NA) uses and changed it to Veloplugs with some electrical tape over each one and surprisingly there was basically no weight savings to be had between the two
