I feel like the truing part is the easy part. If only they made dials for spoke tension
@AJS914 apologies if it was a serious question, to me it read like you were questioning the need for dials in the first place.
The dials show the rims movement, so you can see how far the rim is out of true. Rather than listening for it touching calipers or trying to see how far it closes a gap. In terms of accuracy you can see exactly where the rim is out and by how much.
@kulivontot I've been using the Park Tools Tension App and tension meter. Again other Tools like the WheelFynatic (spelling?) would be awesome but this is what I already have. It's a great system for playing around with. This is a recent fix I did.

i use the dials only in the finishing of the wheel. i find its helpful to be able to move the dials out of the way for the initial work..
i have a mate who PK&lie is mounted on whats essentially a 'lazy suzy' and he does the chasing in from the rear so the dials are not in the way..
another one who uses his parks stand for the initially building then moves to the PK to finish.
in saying that a PK is something i want at some stage

Stiff with strong springs and quick handling
Parktool is excellent
You dont need more true than 0,1mm
Dials with linear reading are waste of time.
I try them. Dont need them
I didnt try PK lie. But perfect wheel can be build with parktool too

+1 the parks stand does a great job, you'd be better spending money on a better tension meter if you wana get serious
it'll have a bigger impact on the over all quality of your wheels than a set of liner gauges
