Schmolke makes some impressive stuff, what's going to be special on these ones? At least from the weight perspective, the new rims don't seem to be anything extraordinary?

Madcow are the clincher rims going to be subject to the usual over heating and blowing on descents ?

hahahaha. You should send this to Schmolke.
$500/rim for the 30mm (288g) Carbon Tubular is a very good price point!

45mm Clincher, 383 grams. 20/24 spoke. 26mm width.
That's very, very light. Price isn't that bad actually.
@madcow, whenever you post a link, on a mobile device you just end up at the fairwheel homepage which sucks on apps like instagram etc

What I find most appealing about these is that they bring a very light rim made by a company who has been doing carbon for longer than just about anyone in the industry and they're doing it at a price that is pretty impressive.
It allows us to build a modern (shape, width, etc...) 1250 gram set of clinchers using all well known branded parts (nothing generic) and still keep the price at under $1800.
Haven't really seen that as a problem with newer rims from companies like Enve, Zipp, etc... Still seems to be common with some of the generic far East rims. Shouldn't be a problem when used correctly as they've been tested with no problems up to 230c. (446F) If you're getting your rims that hot something isn't right.xena wrote:Madcow are the clincher rims going to be subject to the usual over heating and blowing on descents ?

I have a shiny new set of Tune hubs these rims will be mated too..
Curious what the weights are of the built wheels, that already have Tune hubs.
Extralite to those 30mm Carbon Tubular hoops sound dreamy.

How is the lighter weight achieved in TLO vs. SL series? Other than costing a hundred bucks more per rim, what if any, are the downsides of TLO (vs. SLO)? Stiffness? Durability? Robustness to damage from potholes or whatever? Braking performance? Is the carbon different or just less of it in TLO?

you can till roast the newer ones with bad technique.. friend of mine is a clyde.. warped a set of Enve 4.5 (old brake track) on Bolhman in the bay area.. another person he was riding with warped an older set of Reynolds on the same ride. I've done the same ride with my older 3.4s with no issues.. I'm no lightweight either, I've also had to ride my brakes quite a bit in traffic doing Levi's GF and Hauser bridge .. they got pretty warm, but no damage.
The Schmolke's look nice...my new wheels Enve 4.5 are being built now at fairwheel with extralites. yeepee.. should be shipped by monday!
