Any advice or suggestions for wheels for a very light rider (45kg - so I can't lose any weight off myself  )

Looking for:
- clinchers
- NOT tubeless (I want to stay with my preferred Conti 4000s, so don't want to go tubeless. Although I have tried these on a tubeless wheelset, I have small feeble fingers and really struggle to get tyres on / off)
- aluminum or alloy / carbon rims (NOT carbon as I want an aluminum braking surface)
- suitable for 25c tyres
- to use on long, mountain rides in the alps etc (eg Marmotte) so need to be reliable and durable
- budget around £500
- needless to say, lightweight!

Considering both 'factory' and 'hand built' options. Am considering DA 9000 C24, but not sure what other options are available (a lot of the lighter hand built wheels seem to be based on tubeless rims, which I don't want)

Any suggestions for options for further weight saving eg inner tubes? QR skewers?

Advice would be much appreciated! Many thanks.

I'm 56 kg and my everyday wheels are Kinlin XR-200 (24/28 hole)/Sapim Laser/Formula RB-68/210 hubs. 1,330 grams. No issues with flex or durability whatsoever.

At your weight you might be able to go 24 hole rear. You could ask in the Wheelbuilding thread. For hubs, I would go with the lightest offerings from Bikehubstore. With the above you will have plenty of cash left over, I suppose you could track down some high-end hubs to drop the wheelset under 1300g.

For rim tape I use several layers of fiberglass-reinforced strapping tape, alternatively you could use Veloplugs. Latex tubes have the best ride quality but lightweight butyls are OK too if you're not picky about ride feel. Not sure what to suggest about lightweight butyls, my favorite was the Vittoria Evo 55g but they are now discontinued.

We build a pair of wheels using the Ryde rims which would need your requirements nicely. Stiffer than the C24s certainly. Finding a non tubeless ready rim is difficult these days as most have moved over. This is not an issue if you keep the tyre in the gully when fitting / removing it. Hope that helps.

I was going to suggest the Ryde pulse sprint too. 20F/28R as the 28H rim comes in offset drilling. There is a 24H rim but for the sake of 20g of spokes.....

Light hubs and 1300g or under is possible.

I have some American Classic Magnesium 300 Clincher wheels that are 1200 grams with rim strips. They are 22mm wide and are 24mm deep. I have used them with 25mm Continental GP4000 SII tires and it was Sweet. I mostly ran them with 190 gram Kenda's and 50 gram tubes for an crazy light combo! If they do not sell on the bay... I am going to use Continental attack for the front and back and use them for some awesome climbing wheels.

Hello there,

I use the following wheelset:

Ryde Pulse Sprint
Tune Mig70/Mag170 hubs
CX-Ray Spokes

Mine weigh 1270g and are in your price range.

You could also use the Ryde Pulse Sprint with the new CSS braking surface.
It is black and will probably stay black for a while :)
